I have a softop with full roll cage. Would like to get ideas on where to place the Tach meter.

I hate that the PO cut it in there, but it is in a very nice location.

Buy one here: $90

the hole to the right of the cluster is where the PO had a tach before. I too was not stoked about having a hole in the dash that didn't belong, but the clock fits nicely. The tach is now the large gauge on the left.

I don't have a tach :meh:

Not the greatest pic....

but mine is a small Sun Pro II hose clamped to the column. Can't see the clamp. as it's under the plastic covers. Actually , a tach is almost not necessary, as the engine noise / exhaust /trans, etc will pretty well tell you where you are at and when to shift. ;)

Come on go stockish...

hey that kinda looks like it would fit where I stuck the horn button---:D

That is exactly what I planned on doing....did you get the innards out of a 60-62??

Beautifully done indeed!

Got the tach out of a an 82, FJ60.

Got the Bezel from Aus.

Swithced out the inner components, that takes a little work and is nerve racking, as the interior of those stock tachs are twisted over on its side. As well you are working with 30 year old components, and arranging them in a position they were not intended for. I used the Face plate from the Aus. tach, because it looked more authentic to the 40, because it was made for a 40!

I also had to cut away part of the defrost vent, behind the dash, I found this out after I had already cut open the dash.

Here is the link I used for the initial idea, and by intial idea, I mean I flat out copied it......

Next plan is to go digital, with teletek gauge cluster and tach.

Similar to Lobo Loco. I opted for mounting on the top. Blocks the high beam indicator, but I like the tach front and center. Sorry for the crappy cell phone pic.

Ran across this the other day. Seems like it would fit the dash on a 40 very well. It's roughly 2-1/2" x 1-1/2".

This is what mine looks like.
