I've always been a Toyota fan. I started out with old RN series Hilux's then moved to a 2JZ powered 4Runner, followed by a 2 door KE70 wagon with rally engine, all in NZ. Upon moving to Australia 4 years ago I picked up a little LN hilux and pottered around in that for a bit until I the cruiser bug bit. The first picture is a 90's 75 series troopy that I drove from Brisbane to Perth in 8 days with a good mate, it was the start of my love affair with Cruisers, especially Troopcarriers.
This next one is mine, a 2002 HDJ78R, which I managed to pick up a couple years later. Photo was taken at work in the New South Wales outback in the Tri-State area. I build wind farms and it has proved very useful as a work vehicle and home for me while in these remote and unforgiving areas. The wires behind are guy wires from a 147m metereological tower I built. All the material was hauled to this hilltop site by the troopy with a double axle trailer (approx. 30t split across many many loads). Our access road was 33 degrees vertical in some places and I went through quite a few dunlop grantrek tyres before switching from the skinnys and splits to steels and 33s.
Though some mods are newer than this picture, she currently has a 180L longranger sub tank, Ridepro leaf and coil 2" lift, Koni 88 adjustable shocks, Toyota 105 series OEM 16x8 steel rims, 285/75/16 BFG ATs, ARB winch compatible roo bar, LightForce halogens, GME 80 channel UHF and 6.6db antennae, Rhino Racks, customised Strongarm rear wheel carrier, MSA spare tyre bag, Clearview mirrors, Sony stereo, Drifta 1500mm drawer set with kitchen table, Frontrunner tailgate cooking area w/ cutting board, Engel 40L fridge, custom ceiling mounted shelf, overhead console, 2" shifter extension, and i'm sure I've missed some things.
I picked her up with 400k on the clock but she has a very well documented service history. Originally a SA government vehicle (not sure how they justified the expensive engine option but this would surely be one of the few acceptable "wastes" of taxpayer money hahaha), I bought it from a very meticulous German immigrant. I was able to chat to the mechanic who had serviced it from new, and had him do the valve clearances and all fluids, lubes, seals when I bought it. I was told I wouldn't find a better high km FTE and so far that has held true in the 50000km I've put on her in the past year. I service her at all the proper intervals, and have begun replacing things as precautionary measures when I have the time such as having the drive shaft serviced and xfer case freshened.
Pardon my french but I F*CKING love this car.
