Yes it’s a 5 speed manual. I have 265/65r17 on 17x8 rims with the negative offset. The speedo syncs up perfectly with speed on Waze. Do you have directions or a YouTube on how to remove the butterflies and block or the removal the EGR system. Thanks for the help.

And revving these little motors is fine. EGT's fall off at the higher rpms with the increase air flow through the motor. Lower EGTs are a good thing, especially as the stock motors run very high.

I’ve done 2000km so far. Starts up on first turn, and runs well. Does 600 km per tank (about 18-19 gal). Finally got it registered in denver. Had to get a new VIN assigned and emissions done. It’s slow to take off. Is it okay to rev it up to 3500 rpm? It seems my gear changes are at around 3500. 25kmh on the first, 40kmh on the 2nd and 60kmh on the 3rd at 3500 rpm. 4th abd 5th gears are fine. About 110kmh at 3000 rpm. Wonder if it’s too hard for the 2LTE. After weeks of compound abd polishing, it looks a lot better. See new pix

I am trying to get mi e registered in the Denver area too. The first time I went to the DOT, they told me I did not need a VIN inspection through the state, but I am hearing conflicting info - others have said I do need this. The vehicle has an AZ title and a 12 digit VIN currently.
Can you shed any light on this for me?

In colorado you need a VIN inspection for an out of state vehicle.

Depending on your location, you may have to pass emissions as well.

Thanks for the response- that was my understanding of the process, but then DOT looked at my title from AZ and told me that I could register it as is.
????

Yeah I don't think they are correct lol. Any vehicle I've tried to license that had an out of state title, I had to get a VIN inspection. Arizona must be pretty lax on titling as I've heard of quite a few 70 series being titled there when they first come over. Mine is titled in AZ currently, but it's not running so I'm not going to trailer it to get VIN inspected.

Also, I'm not sure how long you've had it, but Colorado used to go by the title/bill of sale date to start stealing...I mean charging you if you are past the 30 days to register new vehicle....regardless if the vehicle runs/moves/disassembled/etc...

Thanks a bunch - VIN inspection scheduled in January

G'Day Fella's, Happy New Year and I hope you all had a Great Christmas.

I'm not long back from a week down the coast, at Bermagui.

Whilst I was there, I seen the following heavily modified 70 series Troopy.
The central section of the body, has had a 250mm/10" section incerted into it, to lift the upper section higher. The body/chassis has also been stretched, by some amount (it now has three side windows).
On the LHS (behind the front door), another door has been installed, apparently for wheelchair access?
In one of the following images (for size comparison), you can see a TLC 100 series, and a Chevy Silverardo (2x4).

D'oh!

I've always been a Toyota fan. I started out with old RN series Hilux's then moved to a 2JZ powered 4Runner, followed by a 2 door KE70 wagon with rally engine, all in NZ. Upon moving to Australia 4 years ago I picked up a little LN hilux and pottered around in that for a bit until I the cruiser bug bit. The first picture is a 90's 75 series troopy that I drove from Brisbane to Perth in 8 days with a good mate, it was the start of my love affair with Cruisers, especially Troopcarriers.

This next one is mine, a 2002 HDJ78R, which I managed to pick up a couple years later. Photo was taken at work in the New South Wales outback in the Tri-State area. I build wind farms and it has proved very useful as a work vehicle and home for me while in these remote and unforgiving areas. The wires behind are guy wires from a 147m metereological tower I built. All the material was hauled to this hilltop site by the troopy with a double axle trailer (approx. 30t split across many many loads). Our access road was 33 degrees vertical in some places and I went through quite a few dunlop grantrek tyres before switching from the skinnys and splits to steels and 33s.

Though some mods are newer than this picture, she currently has a 180L longranger sub tank, Ridepro leaf and coil 2" lift, Koni 88 adjustable shocks, Toyota 105 series OEM 16x8 steel rims, 285/75/16 BFG ATs, ARB winch compatible roo bar, LightForce halogens, GME 80 channel UHF and 6.6db antennae, Rhino Racks, customised Strongarm rear wheel carrier, MSA spare tyre bag, Clearview mirrors, Sony stereo, Drifta 1500mm drawer set with kitchen table, Frontrunner tailgate cooking area w/ cutting board, Engel 40L fridge, custom ceiling mounted shelf, overhead console, 2" shifter extension, and i'm sure I've missed some things.

I picked her up with 400k on the clock but she has a very well documented service history. Originally a SA government vehicle (not sure how they justified the expensive engine option but this would surely be one of the few acceptable "wastes" of taxpayer money hahaha), I bought it from a very meticulous German immigrant. I was able to chat to the mechanic who had serviced it from new, and had him do the valve clearances and all fluids, lubes, seals when I bought it. I was told I wouldn't find a better high km FTE and so far that has held true in the 50000km I've put on her in the past year. I service her at all the proper intervals, and have begun replacing things as precautionary measures when I have the time such as having the drive shaft serviced and xfer case freshened.

Pardon my french but I F*CKING love this car.

Mint Troopy Cylinders. Exactly what I’m chasing in NSW. That’s good about the government opting for the better engine back in the day instead of the 1HZ. Maybe someone there wanted to buy it off the gov’t after the lease cycle

@mitch199 have you joined the facebook group Troopcarriers of Australia? Good place to look for well kept troopies and talk turkey with other enthusiasts. Good luck with your hunt, they do come up for a steal now and then ;)
