So here's a JDM aftermarket steel bumper I picked up earlier this year:
I like it so far. It's bolted to the frame rails and immediately rises up, where the main bar sits just below the front body line. It sits high enough that you can see the frame and front crossmember. I still need to figure out the winch situation, but it feels like a nice middleground between something substantial enough to actually protect the front end, without being huge and bulky. Again, hard to tell how this bumper compares to CO's bumper since I haven't seen it in person. It looks very nice though now that I went back to the linked thread and took a better look at it. The rear bumper utilizing the existing bolt holes might have sold me on it. I hadn't read too far into that thread and thought you needed to drill holes into the rear doors. If it's reversible then that is a great benefit.
