I'd love to join if I can make it work.

What are dates this year? Relatively new to the sty. I saw June, is there a specific week on the calendar?
It isnt set in stone, but the Idea is sometime around the solstice but with regard to not overlapping father's day or too early in June to infringe on the chillins school. Looks like maybe the week of the 20th and/or last weekend in June.

Land Between the Lakes is pretty flipping cool. A decent actual off road park, and tons of sketchy pencil line roads.

This might disappoint the hard core off road types, but you can start at Land Between the Lakes, which has lots of camping opportunities, and spend a day or two green laning through the western tip of the Smoky Mountains to Chattanooga, which passes through a shed load of cool towns, (including Nashville) and another shed load of distilleries, including Jack Daniels'.

I have started exploring Middle Tennessee, and really love the place.
Sounds like a great place for the next SSS. A little too far East for a western Pig Party.

Family weddings put me out the last weekend in June and the last weekend in July. All else open.
Shouldn't be a determining factor for the group but we'd hate to miss our first Pig Party after five straight years. Still hoping for northern NM or perhaps northern NV for a change of scenery.

Rising Sun TLC club out of Denver does "the Train Trip" every summer, chasing the Cumbres and Toltec Scenic Railroad from Antonito in far SW Colorado to Chama NM. Might satisfy some itches...

Might be able to interest some Rising Sun folks as guides if necessary. Mark (abqcruiser) hangs out in this area and may have some other northern NM ideas.

I brought up a couple possible locations in northern NM/ southern CO before everything fell through for 2020. Still viable locations with what looks to have a ton to offer.
Chama, NM / Platoro Reservoir, CO
Hey Rush, Jim, @riderjgs just clued me in on the discussion. That's beautiful country up there. I wish I knew more about the 4wd access in the area around Chama . My cabin that I'm building is 30 minutes away from Platoro, so I'm getting to know that area as well. Looks like we just need a map and a plan.

Here's my 2020 post from my friend who has a cabin at Platoro:

"Good to hear from you. I'll do the best I can answering your questions. The road (FR 250/247) to Platoro Reservoir is usually open from the south by early late May. FR 250 coming from the north over Stunner Pass is usually open by early June. This year the snow was close to normal so these should be good estimates. 4wd trails in the Platoro are include a short drive to Kerr lake on FR 257 which you have done before when we took your boat there many years ago, Another is FR 105, a rough but easily passable road (without snow) with good scenery. FR 260 is known as the "old toll road" and is access from the Conejos river basin to the Alamosa river basin. It is rough and can be challenging if there is water/mud. North of Platoto is the town of Jasper. FR 280 heads north out of Jasper to Blow Out pass. There is a trail from the pass that continues up to Bennett peak (13,200 ft) which is open when the snow melts. Another trail to the north is the historic Elwood pass trail that heads down the Elwood creek/East Fork of the San Juan River toward Pagosa Springs. This trail has several stream crossings that will be challenging in June. There might be a 4wd club in Pagosa Springs that keeps up with trail conditions that might be good to check with before making final decisions. Let me know if you have other questions."

Cheers,

Mike

Went up there twice this year. Climbed Conejos Peak and Summit Peak. Took the '76 FJ40 on the Conejos Peak trip, here's a photo of the trailhead parking and another from the summit looking NW towards Summit Peak. We crashed PP2018, sans any Land Cruiser, and may crash again if that's OK - can always zip-tie a Pig grille to either the FJ40 or FJ60. Had hoped to have my '86 FJ60 by PP2018, but fell a little behind on the build. It's running strong now.

I've been to one total 4x4 event, and it was one day long, so I wouldn't know what's appropriate for an event.
Schedule a Southern Swine Soiree in middle Tennessee and run the route past a few bourbon distilleries and it'll probably guarantee J Mack and I will be there.

"Personal opinion…expand our horizons. Plenty of states left without starting repeats."

Those in the West where we haven't Partied include Wyoming (Redgrrr has suggested the Morrison Jeep trail), New Mexico, Nevada, and the far West states of California (northern CA east of the Sierras would be fun), Oregon and Washington. We've also barely touched Montana. Happy to help if Colorado is a repeat choice but would prefer to see some new country.
Having just run morrison jeep trail last year with fat bastard and a friend in his 100, i do not recommend it for anyone with an altitude challenged pig. there is a 4000' climb in the first mile that is 23 tight switchbacks and no room to get around dead vehicles. not the kind of trail you can easily back down if you have mechanical issues or if you need to tow someone up. for the well built piggies, rock on.

Good to hear from you Ige. Don’t be a stranger here.
