Ya, I was afraid it didn't go through. I will update the graphic when I decide to go back to work.

Hey Guys,

A little update on my end:

1) I've learned that Marble View Point (located on the border of GCNP and the NF) is a must see. Supposedly it's only a 3 hr RT from Demotte. Just take FR 610 to FR 219. Check it out on a map.

2) Depending on how you're driving to the North Rim, The Cliff Dwellers Lodge is a great stop for food/gas and poser shot of your rig. It's located 8 miles West of the Navajo Bridge (before hitting Jacob's Lake) on 89. From here they is likely an off-road option bypassing Jacob's Lake on the way to De Motte. From the maps I've checked out it looks like 8910 to 220 to 213 to 67 and De Motte. I'll probably plan on hitting this "scenic" way in to camp.

3) Fire Point/Swamp Point: these are two vista points that are on the border of the GCNP and NF again. This one is special, not just because of the view, but next to it are supposedly the last 2 square miles of virgin Ponderosa Pine Forest. The trees are huge and form a much larger canopy. Maybe I'm just an arborist nerd, but I need to check them out. If you get up close to large Ponderosas they smell like vanilla.

4) Dinner at the North Rim Lodge: This is sort of a bucket list item for the North Rim. I suggest calling in advance, to secure a dining reservation around sunset. I figure we'll do our pot luck again on Wednesday the 20th so maybe the 21st might be a good time to plan for this? Apparently they won't take reservations for super large groups, but if a few of us call requesting 5 or 6 person tables, we'll have enough for everyone who wants to partake. The North Rim is closed now so we have to wait to make reservations. 928-638-8560: May 15th through October 14th

Wow, that's a heck of a view. Is the picture of Marble View Point or one of the other sites? I'll dig out our maps and do some planning. Thanks for posting that.

Looks like the sitting room at the North Rim Lodge. We had lunch in the dining room in June. Sunset would be spectacular.
Thanks, Hank, for ideas for stops on our way to DeMotte.
This should be an epic adventure. Looks like everyone from last year has a campsite except for Ige. What will we do for cookies?

That’s of the North Rim Lodge.

RSVP Jill, Julia & Arthur for PP18!

I’ll be rolling solo from Florduh retrieving them at the Vegas airport. We will then immediately depart for St George for the night and then onto Demotte campground the next morning.

Flying the family out was the only way it was happening. 4 days in the pig sounds great at the Grand Canyon but not after riding in the car 4 days across the USA and then driving back another 4 days. We’d all be miserable in some way or another. Not to mention the old adage “he who travels alone travels furthest and fastest”. I’ll be able to book it across the USA, rolling solo.

Direct flights from Orlando to Vegas are probably some of the cheapest flights in the USA. I’d “bet” the airlines get a kickback from Nevada for every passenger that lands at the airport.

Hey, anything you have to do to make it happen. You never know after they have so much fun with the pig, they might want to travel some with it. Looking forward to seeing you there.

Mel what night in st George will u be ariving

They land in Vegas tues 8pm. The plan is to head directly to St George Best Western that night where I booked a room. The following morning we will hit the road after loading up the coolers at the local grocery store.

Sedona is a great place. Might enjoy Schnebly Hill road. Really beautiful place. Lived in Flagstaff for a bit, lots of cool places to visit. Walnut Canyon east of Flag has some pretty cool cliff dwellings.

Is anyone drivin past @shmukster s place on the way to the party?
