thanks for the pics. when $ is convenient, i'd like to do this. on the tcase side, it doesn't look like you go in more than when you change the output seal and i've done that, so this gives me a ton of confidence.

here's a link to the marks kit http://www.marks4wd.com/products/part-time-4wd/lc-80SERIESPT4WD.html
slee has a part time kit also

ABS is supposed to completely shut off if there is a problem. It's a safety feature. It should never try and apply more brakes to the rear unless the system is active meaning no ABS light. So it will be like old school braking which I prefer better anyways for various conditions.

This particular 80 series is an HDJ81 and did not have ABS so the driver is not going to notice a difference in the braking. If your attached to your ABS you will have to leave your wheel hubs in the locked position. They mention this on the part time kit site.

What is the fuel mileage difference? I would assume there would be an increase in mileage...

There would be an increase more in a gas but first hand we have only had it installed for a few days so have to wait a little longer for that number.

Well finally got the seals from Marlin so we installed the longs last night as well as the hubs. Here is a picture of the shafts, birfs, and the seals.

Then some pics during assembly. Straight forward procedure and no different than any other work done in the axle. The cost for the longs with shafts and part time kit with hubs was still cheaper than new birfs from Toyota with a stronger better end result.

Curious about the AVM hub construction. Do they still use a cast aluminum body? And do you have a part # on the hub? Thanks

From my research on Oz forums, the general consensus is that the AVM hubs are not as strong as OEM Aisins. I forgot, but the AVM's are rebadged models of a different brand--

And let's be realistic, there really is no other hub that should go on our rigs...

I told the guy this and he wants the Aisins when I can come across a used set at a junk yard. They don't look as strong and stick out farther than an Aisian I believe. But for now they will do the trick.

I will see if I can get a part number for the AVM's.

unfortunately, easier said than done ;)

Not really Ige. Any 30 spline Aisin hub will fit (mini-truck/FJ60/62/non-US 105) our rigs. Dan can get you the correct scallop style hub flange manual hubs too.

Mine are off of a FJ60 that I rebuilt and they are just awesome.

i thought the shorties didnt' fit and that it had to be the 76-78 ones, or is that just with the longs?

Shorties fit fine with modification to the birfs.

4/1994 and earlier 80 series rigs have the shorter birf: 238.5mm in length. These are a direct fit for shorty Aisin hubs.

4/1994 and later birfs: 246.5mm in length. You can either have a new snap ring machined that accommodates the difference or you can buy the earlier, non-ABS birfs from 1991-1992 80 series rigs. I went this route and used my longer (5/1997 build date) ones with new snap rings machined as spares.

Nice install, I would be interested in hearing more about other hub options as well.

BTW, i have just removed my part time converted 80 t-case for a NV4500 w/ split case, if anyone is looking to do the same and save on install, would need hubs to go with it.
(I know shameless plug ;) )

Ige,

the short body IFS truck hubs will fit with Bobby Long's chromo hub gear as well, provided the early short birfs are used or a second groove is machined as discussed in a few other threads. Most mini truck folks practically give away the IFS hubs and Long's gears are very reasonably priced. If a guy or gal plans to run Bobby's axles & birfs I think a set of Long's gears should be mandatory.

i assume you would need to re-groove and cut some length off a 95'-97' stock birf to use the Aisin hub?

X2 .. there are 8mm or 10mm in your hubs cover .. ? ( factory are 6mm ) atl east they look bigger ..
