How would this situation be different than a open/e-locker equipped 80? Im venturing to guess that the rear will act very much the same BUT if i do the PT, can't I then throw another aussie in the front. Since i will have hubs the truck will act as follows:
cdl off = 2wd = rear locked w/aussie
cdl on = 4wd w/hubs open = locked R, open F
cdl on = 4wd w/hubs locked = locked F,R

Anyone know if this is correct?

That is exactly why I am doing the PT kit....have hubs and an Aussie in the front, just don't like having everything spin all the time. Might do a 62's A440 and a PT case though if I catch a deal.

A small tidbit of parts information to add to this thread:

The 105 series part time Aisin hubs are available from Toyota in NA so you can use the longer splined later series Birfs or Bobby's without any modifications. :)

So if you are intent on doing this correctly, sticking with Longs and not voiding your warranty, and having the exact correct fit, this might be the ideal solution.

So if I weld my cdl can I use any 30 spline manual hub from mile marker or warn for an older fj?

Don't weld your CDL! You'll still need it with a welded center differential. :D The CDL becomes the 2wd/4wd system, just like with a standard part time conversion.

On a 91, I believe so. On later models, the splined section of the birfield is longer and won't fit in a standard Aisin hub.

I run a pair of older Warn hubs on my '93 that came off my FJ40.

I would love to have more info on how to do this...

It really is just about as simple as what I said. The hard part is keeping the center diff from warping when you weld it. Also, if any of the welds don't hold or there is loose splatter, it could wreak havoc inside your tcase. So, there's a little risk involved. More risk, more reward, right? :D

I can't take credit for the idea, the guys at Atlanta Custom Creations :: Land Cruiser & Toyota Trucks/SUVs :: Maintenance, Expedition Builds, Restorations clued me in.

I wish I had thought of it before I bought a part time kit. If I was thinking when I installed my kit, I should have realized the same thing.

I thought about doing this when I had my Tcase apart but I'm no welding expert and didn't want to mess up my Tcase.

that will let your front DS turning all time .. and you must use the shorter birf .. and yes.

sorry I didnt mean to imply i would weld my L just my cd. At the risk of redundence, if I put some 30 spline manual hubs on with my stock birfields then upgrade to a longfield I will then need aisin hubs or a spacer on my exsisting ones?

hey all, chris here from nsw, australia.

Got a big problem you may be able to help me with.

I got a 93 model rv landcruiser which came standard as a fulltime setup.

I recently brought a part-time kit from marks 4x4 adaptors and installed it (transfer and hubs) back in january.

Unfortunatly after taking the car on the beach the other day the t/case refuses to fully disengage the front tailshaft.

Any ideas? i read through this thread and thought you guys had a pretty good idea what your on about cheers.

Would love to sort this out asap and by myself so any help is appreciated
