Depends on what your expectations and standards are. And this is one area where I've found little correlation between price and quality. I've seen bad paint jobs that cost a lot and good jobs that were very reasonably priced, and everything in between. I'd go so far as to say it's nearly a crap shoot. Some guys care about their craft, others are just trying to make a quick buck. (BTW, I have similar opinions on the auto upholstery business. Some of those guys are flat out price gouging.)
That said, how perfect do you want it and how much work are you willing to do yourself? You can save a bunch of labor by removing all bumpers, lights, trim pieces, roof racks, mirrors etc yourself and putting them back on yourself later.
Are you looking for factory-like paint details around door handles, engine bay and door jambs? Or are you willing to compromise there? Could you accept overspray "blends" in the engine bay and the deep recesses of the door jambs? This is where the price can skyrocket due to greatly increased labor.
As one example, I repainted my green metallic 80 to a more practical tan for under $2500. I personally saw the truck at key stages like post sanding prep, primer, base coat then clear. While some shortcuts were made on what areas to cover (i.e. doors were not pulled off the truck), they did a solid job with getting a very functional paint coat down. Not show car standard by a long shot and not even as complete as what you'd get from the Toyota factory. But solid, durable and overall an attractive new skin for an old Land Cruiser. I'm coming up on 7 years since this was done and I'm still 100% satisfied. The only place where paint has lifted away since is where I've taken rock hits, and I would expect the factory paint would've done about the same. I still get compliments on how good it looks in the "new" color.
