You may need to do a DC rear DS as well.

You don't have any armor, do you? If you don't, you'll be higher than 6" probably. So with the body lift and spring spacers, you could probably fit 42" tires....just not much flex!

i want to drive it home, these are my only skinnys. i dont think theyd make it across mcgrew and back.
that and they seem to lack lateral stability and dont resist rollover.

i did get the rear hanger stuff welded out tonite. have a couple little spots to weld up and then i can bolt the rears up for good.

managed to catch on fire too, that always makes for some excitement. killed two pair of dickies pants in 4 days. maybe try for the trifecta this weekend.

hope to get the suspension gussets etc totally buttoned this weekend. if i work hard maybe i can get the bumpers and sliders on too.

got the hangers welded up and gusseted.
showing the rear boxing.
the front boxing, still have some stuff with the front hanger but want to get the steering box in first.
the last is showing a decent shackle angle out back.

was able to get my axles under it this weekend.
so the rear spring stuff is done, have to make upper shock mounts.
the front is the same.
i cut a bunch of pads so i can weld the old rocksliders onto this truck. as well as the rear bumper.

going to have a bit of body work to get the rear fenders where i want them. kind of a bummer since i had almost no trimming on the rear of the 79. the fronts will be easy.
i am planning on taking 2-3" out of the rear fenders. something like this

You can cut. Moving the axle back is not a big deal if you want to do that.

Cutting isn't that bad, but you have to remove the flares as well. You can fit 37's without cutting. How big are you planning on going?

the guys in the valley are good if you need stock stuff, but lack the ability to think outside the box.

they quoted me 3.75$ an INCH for .188 DOM tubing which is 100$ in material.
Jess said he'd fix my shaft for 150$


also i am ASE certified and able to do pretty much anything mechanical and a lot of fab stuff.

after looking at the inside of the doorframe it looks like i can take out an inch easy and do some stitch welding and seal it back up no problem. Ive done paint and body work before so i could trim it up quite a bit and make it look close to a factory job finish wise. possibly even an inch and a half. i'm eventually going pretty large tire wise. I'm gonna buy a fullsize truck and the 80 becomes a trail/hobby rig at that point. The larger the tire the more places you can go, the more clearance you have but i dont want to have to lift it so high that i end up on my roof. big tires + low lift height = tires on ground and not in the air.

I may have to give your guy a call. I'm gonna need at least a front shaft once the lift goes on. I cant wait to see your runner in action

Sounds like you have the same thoughts as me. I'm trying to keep my lift height as low as possible with as much room for travel as possible.

For the rear, you really don't need to do much/any cutting. You're going to either rub on the outside of the wheel well (and rip off your flare if you have it, or haven't trimmed it), or the inside of the wheel well and/or frame. Rubbing against the frame or inside of the wheel well isn't a big deal, outside can cut up the tire or rip off the flare.

The front is where trimming helps more as the front wheel wells aren't as big as the rears, and you tend to rub sooner and on spots that can cause more problems.

FWIW I've talked with several people who have trimmed the front and still rubbed their 37's or 38's. It takes quite a bit of trimming to make it worthwhile.
