Well, what can I say. I saw a good deal on another Landcruiser on CL, so I pulled the trigger. Just picked it up at 2:15pm today.

It's a Feb of 1978 FJ40, all original minus the owners "add ons" including oil and water temp guages, CB, Cassette radio, and RPM guage, seat covers and matts. Has 86k (original) on the clock. He did cut the fenders for some flares. (since removed)

It was right here in West Salem where I live. An old WW2 vet owned it along with his wife. They pulled it every fall and spring down to Nevada where they took it up to the hills and had some fun. Never drove it otherwise the last 18 years. Did drive it alot its first 10 years. He created a place in the rear mounted to the bumperettes where his wife could stand and enjoy the view while he tooled around slowly. She was almost coming to tears to see her "Tag" (nickname for tagalong) go away. But I assured them I would restore her back to glory, and givem a ride when shes all done.

"Tag" rides and drives very nice with plenty of power. Just went through a major engine overhaul less than 1k ago. including crank, bearings, headwork, etc. Has new tires, radiator, starter, batt. And its my Favorite color. 653 OLIVE. The paint is original. It has spent most of its life indoors, but still has the typical rust in the rear corners.

My plans are for a full blown frame off as soon as I get done with my current resto. So in the mean time, I will be enjoying driving "Tag" around every day.

Now for some pics...

And yes I AM WELL AWARE OF THE BEZEL SITUATION... Oh, and the first thing I did was remove the tow bar... :) (in the first 15 mins of being home)...

Oh, I paid $4995.00 for it, in case you were wondering. (I know you were)

Very nice ! Looks good , except for the bezel

You paid too much! Just kidding...you did good, congrats. Make sure you take a lot of pics when you do her up. And share!:bounce:

Thats Great Good find !! Whats with the rear step ???

See my first post. He built it for his wife to "see the sights" while tooling around the countryside.

Heres a shot of my 76 resto, which is what I intend this one to look like when she's done.

Congrats! almost look like twins....it appears it had some rear flares in the past ...rear cutouts maybe bushwacker....;)

Kool find!!!

It must be nice to have a wife that tears up when you sell your 'cruiser! It's good that it's in your hands to keep the legacy going!

33 x 10.50 bfg mt with OE Wheels...

Driving it every day. The 33's make it alot better for top end...

Very nice Crazy Greek.......must be swell to have those choices. Thanks for the update.

I did do a couple upgrades...

Added an HEI ignition, took the top off, removed the rear "custom" step, replaced the rear taillights and reflectors, new rear seatbelts, removed all the funky dash stuff the PO added. wire wheeled all the rust in the bed, and painted it with ACE paint, rubberized some of the undersides...

Thinking about adding some (temp) custom angle iron flares...
