The big Peter truck. Heh heh heh.. Sweeet.

Just got back, first 200 miles were nice and smooth. Took it easy, which is difficult when the gurgle of that wannabe V8 ramps up.

So many bells and whistles - kinda silly. Color is definitely not as red in person. It was getting dark when I took these. Looks like Clemson orange in person. Nice and discreet.

Nice truck! How was the dealership to deal with? I'm assuming one in VA.

Had one I wanted, but didn't call me back to finalize the deal
Said they had another one coming did I want to reserve it?
Hemmed and hawed, looking for another one, but I said yes I'll reserve it.
Her manager said "you can't reserve it if you're out of state" - bull**** arbitrary thing to do
Salesperson said the second it arrives if someone doesn't buy it it's yours
So she followed through with that - called me on Sunday as we were all packing up
Paid them the deposit
Told them get it all together so I can come in and out, I have a 3 hour drive
Took a 3 hour uber up there, they made me sit for 1.5 hours while the finance guy "did some stuff"
She drank a bottle of water in front of me - didn't offer me any even after knowing I was in an Uber for 3 hours
After that, they put me in the hard sell room for the $4k extended warranty pitch
No thanks had to be said SEVERAL times.
Made me sign a document that had weirdly left off my $1k deposit.... hmmmmm ooops?
Corrected that begrudgingly, with a sigh... like it was somehow my fault
Got to the car, they didn't walk me through a single thing other than how to sign up for their app and wifi/sirus subscription crap.
The truck was suppose to have 5 miles on it
It had 39 miles
Apparently they had to "bring it from the other lot"
Computer showed 7.5MPG over that clearly hard run 39 miles..... a****** kid probably
They screwed a front bumper license plate mount into the nice new bumper.

So overall - pretty much par for the course. Thank God I came in with my own pre-arranged financing. I would have been there for 4+ hours. Half way through it I considered calling an expensive Uber home and buying the model x tesla - that was the other choice.... JUST so I didn't have to deal with a dealership experience. I think Elon has it right - it's nothing but a shifty and shady experience...

That's one hell of a story! I hope you're laughing about it now at least. I am in the market for a van for my wife (long story), but Haley was one of the dealerships I WAS in contact with. Your description (aside from the go-getter saleslady) is exactly what I thought it would be from their organization. Some of these email chains I have make me shake my head. If I had a lot of spare time, I would go to these dealerships and catfish them all day long (disappear for hours during the paperwork sessions, etc). That would be fun to watch in some sort of "reality" show IMO. I tried to push my wife towards a Tesla, but she doesn't like them.

I think it's law if the car has virginia paper plates they have to put one on the front too (I too had this when I picked up my LC in VA). I'd be willing to risk a ticket to avoid piercing the plastic front bumper next time for the drive back. But the dealership would likely not go along with this plan.

Sucks about the kid who took the left lane to your signing. Did you get the "platinum plus excellence majesty plus plus warranty plus" warranty from toyota? If so, did you use the guy/lady recommended here? Anyways, good to know haley sucks as a dealership. It's too bad they're as big as they are.

No warranty. I live dangerously

One really key factor to this is they were going to sell it at MSRP without any sort of markup other than some stupid $500 fee for magic air (nitrogen filled tires and vin etching)

none taken! I hate the friggen car buying experience too! It's a culture that I don't think can be changed.

And the asshat kid did not drive 39 hard miles.... that is all the mpg's a Tundra gets!! :bounce::bounce2:

I'm wondering how Toyota is going to spank the peepee of these dealerships that mark up their inventory? I hope it is something meaningful, but we will see.
 
Congratulations. I’ve done one dealership experience. Never again. Bought my current Ram via text and they brought it to me in Huntsville from Kernersville. Spent about 10min on phone total. 2 min signing paper on the tailgate at the local Lowes. Kernersville Ram was a fantastic experience. Didn’t push anything, listened when I said no and sold it at MSRP during Covid truck craziness.

Actually thinking about it, Surprisingly when I bought my wife’s Mercedes via text, I show up looking homeless, and they took me serious. Great experience too. I’ve gone to a few Toyota dealers to buy and they’ve all been asshats and I left frustrated.

I guess Ill keep getting my Toyotas as rusted junk or saving them from the crusher.

I bought my F350 on x-plan; got to deal with the commercial sales team and that was such a better experience. Those guys build relationships to sell vehicles in the future not screw the average Joe off the street to meet a monthly quota. I don't work at a company that offers x-plan anymore so I'll probably just buy rusted junk, but I'm OK with that
