@forrest5000 and I made the trip to Trollhole’s shop today and retrieved my 40. The power steering set up is fantastic! During the drive home the truck’s driving suddenly changed and it started to shake when I hit 60. I had initially thought it was because that section of I-85 is under construction but the steering was fine. After too many miles I eventually decided to pull off at an exit to ensure something hadn’t come loose. Eric has been riding behind me and thought the driver side rear tire looked like it could be out of balance. I decided a weight might have come off and not to worry about it as I ordered new tires on Friday. We parted ways not a dozen or so miles later. About 10 minutes later, after having merged on I-485 while traveling 65 mph, I heard what sounded like a gun shot. When I pulled off, I heard hissing air and found this. Exciting times. Looking forward to new shoes for the truck this week!

Wow. My truck is at trollhole’s.
How old are those tires? Never seen a tire do that.

Wow David! Glad you and the truck came out unscathed. Tire looks like it has a bad case of dry rot.

Rear blowouts are actually the more dangerous of the two. That's the reason that most tire pros will put the new tire set on the rear even if you go in to replace only the front two.

Tread separation/patch blowout is a very common on older tires. I had it happen once in my 80 when I first got it (front.tire)... That was a fun ride. And once in my firebird (rear tire).

Working in the tire business I saw it about 20 times a day on tires coming in.

Whoa! Thats an extreme one. Glad everyone is good, but also would love to see the date stamp, typically DOT and 4 digits, for the week and the year of manufacture.

Copied from the 60 forum. It was parked inside a hanger in Nashville. Hanger is completely gone, truck was about 100' from the hanger.

John C Tune airport in west Nashville. That was where the initial ground bump was in the mid-state. It bumped up and down for about 25 miles across Nashville and put down hard on the east side and stayed on the ground for about 25 more miles. Picked up and sat down hard again about 40 miles east in western Putnam Co (just west of cookeville) and stayed on the ground for about 15 miles. Grew to an EF4 at one point with a damage path of over 500 yards (over a quarter mile wide). Putnam Co took the bulk of the damage with 18 fatalities, over 80 injured and hundreds left homeless...

Total from first sign of tornadic activity til it picked up in Putnam county was roughly 140 miles from just north of Camden TN to Cookeville.

It was a rough week. But you know what, the outpouring by the folks here has been so great that at one point the local EMA directors in some areas were having to take names and numbers and asking folks to give them a day or 2 to get their ducks in a row. I'm sure yall know how it goes, but around here we dont wait for the Feds or State to come ask what we need, we tell them to get in and help or get the F out of the way, we got $h!t to do.

Regarding aftermath, it was the same when I lived in the Keys. We didn't stand on our roofs with Help us signs, we dug in and cleaned up the mess, neighbor helping neighbor. When you had your own place in order you went to other areas and pitched in there. It was truly an uplifting experience. I had set up a generator and back wired it to the house and had enough power to keep the fridge running and the AC. Plenty of folks keeping perishables in my fridge and coming over to cool off and sleep scattered throughout the house. Six days until power came back.

Nashville and other effected areas will be much tighter communities afterward as well. Amazing how a disaster reveals the depth of our humanity!

So I am going to be coming into Boone this weekend to pick up a truck from @pawwright and was curious if there was anywhere interesting to grab a bite. I like trying local spots if i can when I am out and about. I saw Lost Province Brewing Co. is in Boone, so that is on the list of potential stops. Open to other suggestions.
