Not related to the bearded wonder above but....

What kind of floor mats is everyone using? I had Weathertech in my 4Runner and loved them but I have read reviews saying that they did not for a LC very well. Any lower price options that work well? They don't have to be molded....just something that looks nice and works well.

Weathertech plastic/molded in daughter #1's Subaru and in daughter #2's 80. Haven't experienced any slippage but then again, without my knowing it, wife applied some double stick tape to driver side floor of 80 that appears to have the consistency of tar! Hoping there is never a need to remove that tape as I don't think it's coming off, at least without some cursing & gnashing of teeth....Weathertech rubber in our '07 Avalon, Lloyd's rubber mats in the 62 and 40

That was a hard used vehicle. lots of kids, several girlfriends, lots of in and out action. when new they were fine, but over time they got loose and so I kicked them to the curb..... And the floormats were terrible too.

^^Well played Sir

Check Clist for floor mats - I have gotten lucky twice doing that, and I mean with the mats, not with the person who sold them.

As someone who buys/sells too many cars and buys weather mats for all of them, I like Husky's a bit more, although some are ugly. They also wedge into the floor boards nicely vs the Weathertech, cover more of the area behind the brakes, and move around less in my opinion.

I also am now considering myself a Flygster (if a fatter, somewhat lazy toward the approach, and older Hipster, had a baby with a Yuggy - which is a Hippy/Yuppy, who also loves guns, some conservative causes, and "prepping" to a certain degree), I prefer the more rugged-marketed and not as nice looking Husky Liners. It can't be too good looking or I would devolve into some other form of "xxxster."

My Wife's Highlander Weathertech are great, though - and they look great for my Wife who is not quite a Flygster - but I will save her title for later . . .

Husky's are also made in Kansas, which I think is important . .

I knew it was coming, but it was still funny...

Sears has the Weathertech semi trim or whatever on sale for $35....so I swing by Sears to pick them up and the guy ring them up and he said it would be $58....I told him that online they were $35....so the guy makes me order them on my phone....which I did and then tells me I will have to come back when the order is confirmed. I told him I had the confirmation number on my phone. 'Well the way IT works it might take some time". Well, when I send an email it is instant....and my card is already charged. So now I have to go back and pick up what was already in my hands. WTF. No wonder Sears are going out of business left and right.

@sleepycruiser I had a similar experience, albeit not as frustrating, at Target. I went in to buy a new down feather pillow. I found what I wanted and looked it up with my QR code app just to see if the price was completely out of the park or similar to online stores. Low and behold my QR app says that Target has it cheaper. At first, I'm thinking WTF? But then I take the pillow to the register and ask if they can sell it to me for the Target.com price. Cashier says they can, but I have to go to the Returns desk to get it. I did and saved $6.

@weejub How did the xmas tents from thatdailydeal.com go over? I still need to patch the hole in mine and figure out a waterproofing solution.

I didn't end up getting the ScoutsDirect tent deal if that is the one you mean? They moved from that name to Hiker Direct, probably due to pricing issues with Alps Mountaineering ALPS Mountaineering | Camping Gear & Mountaineering Equipment. The Scouts deal requires you state a Scout Troop during purchase and looks like you have to register now and be vetted or some crap :)

I just looked at their current closeouts and the only tent is the Alps Extreme 2. It would be a good tent to cram two scouts in, but not great for two adults.

Hiker Direct

Here it is on Amazon:

Amazon.com : ALPS Mountaineering Extreme 2 Person Tent : Backpacking Tents : Sports & Outdoors

They have it for $100 vs $144 on Amazon.

We own three of the Alps Mtn tents. Son has 3-person that was used through Scouting and is still in pretty good shape. I have a 2 person that as a Scout dad, I had to use solo (it is a SMALL 2 person, btw). Then we have a pretty big 11'x11' that is for like 6 people or more.

For your and Sarah, would recommend a 3-4 person. I wanted to get the Meremac 4 Outfitter or the Lynx 4 - both have ALU poles - for Heather and me.

However, I have came into a case of Tent Envy . . . I will blame Izzy, Stan and Jim for that plus almost everyone in the club. We decided to just "live a little" and use our big tent. It doesn't take up that much more space. Plus, we will have to start dragging our 14-year old with us on adventures as our 18 year old is leaving home, so we will want the bigger tent.

@weejub I thought I remembered you saying you were getting the closeout tents that @sleepycruiser, I think, had posted a few months ago. I know a bunch of us bought some so maybe it wasn't you.

I think Sarah is finally seeing some value in a base camp tent that you don't have to crawl into on your hands and knees. I know...sheesh...thought that day would never come. Might be shopping soon for something nice and tall. That'll only bring us to 4 tents. Nothing wrong with that, right? 1-p, 2-p, 3-p and, hopefully, freakin' circus! I can see it now:
You: John, aren't you gonna set up your tent?
Me: Yep, but the elephant is busy raising Izzy's tent pole first.

The pic is the closeout tents. I think I got the Pinion. They had already sold out of the Bristlecone.

I remember @Beau Diddly was/is selling some OZtent-like tents..........

Expedition style tents

We bought a family tent about 5-6 years ago but I think it's still made by Coleman. It's not light at about 40lb packed and about 30" long in a small duffle style bag, but it's been very good to us when we need a base camp. Footprint is 9 x 16 and has nearly vertical walls. Plenty of room for lots of sleeping bags, but for just a couple of people it allows us to set up a big mattress on one end and not have to get dressed while standing on the mattress.

It's called the Hampton and still sells for $200 or less. Setup can be done by one person, but definitely easier with two. It's held up in heavy rain when properly staked/anchored at the corners. The old model (ours) has two swingout doors, but the current model deleted one of the doors. We don't use it on all trips, but if we know we're going to be in one spot for more than 3 days, it's been worth the space it takes up.

@JohnVee please post up what you find in the way of an outfitter, walk in style tent, I am looking for the same thing. Heather's biggest complaint is having to get on the ground to go in the tent.

I think the best route for us will end up being a trailer with a tent that puts the mattress in top of the trailer and a walk in section next to the trailer. God knows if that will ever happen.

Crawl on hands and feet to get into tent? Havent done that since I was 7. Grownups have grownups tents, the bigger the better. And with manicured lawn in front.

Does anyone in Charlotte have 2 car door magnetic signs I could borrow for a few weeks? Free marketing around Ballantyne and Plaza if you do!

Our "big tent" is actually 10x10 and has a 6' height. Probably too small for several of you who I would call the opposite of Ultra Light Backpacker-types :) I know at Uwharrie, people walked by our "big tent" and scoffed :)
