Proudly wearing my MC1R mutation!
In the camping Gear thread there is some discussion about Big Ass tents, but I'll toss some in here as well.
I have the REI Kingdom 8. This is a great tent, with big flat walls. I'm 6'4" and can stand and move around comfortably. It has a huge vestibule at one end and has, what they call, the Connectech Garage as an option at the other, This is a massive, vestibule-cum-mud room with stake out awnings. There is lots of ventilation and 2 rooms inside. This is an awesome tent. Two downsides - (1) awkward for single person set-up (2) in a stiff wind, the big flat walls that make the interior so spacious act like sails if they aren't properly guyed out.
@Izzyandsue has the Big Agnes Flying Diamond 8. this was actually my first choice, but due to a seemingly endless back order at the time I was buying, I went in a different direction. This tent has (what I think are) 2 main advantages (1) simple 1 man set-up (2) awesome weather resistance. The trade of comes from it being a dome versus barn style. The absolute head room number is roughly the same, but only in the center. I believe it also lacks the veranda (garage) option.
Either one is a palace.
If you typically have a second set of hands and only ever go out when its nice, Kingdom 8. If you often solo, or refuse to be scared off by a little wind/rain/hail/snow/tsunami/etc. Big Agnes.
I prefer the Big Agnes, but that is largely due to the fact that I'm willing to camp out in shi**y weather, and my boys "help" setting up is still not really helpful.
