Hi All, I have a 1977 FJ40 that I just put OME suspension all round. However I have run into a problem fitting the bolts that hold the bracket in place. I can't seem to get the bolt through and there is no space for the nut on the end.

I think I may have assembled it incorrectly, and perhaps the bolt comes out from inside the frame hanger with the nut on the outside? If any one has any pictures it would be appreciated!

Hopefully you can see what I mean from my pics.

how do they stay secure or what do they screw into? I was assuming a nut on the back was holding them.

IIRC the OME springs use the larger bushing hence the larger spring eye. Even the stock spring eye will sometimes contact the bolt tips. I did as previously suggested and trimmed the bolts to prevent the tips from getting fubared.

are those standard bolts?

Yes larger bushings than stock, which is normal for aftermarket springs. Simply shorten the bolts, or find shorter bolts, so that they flush out on the inside where the bushing rides. No need for a nut, you could use a lock washer under the head if you desire.

Where did you buy your kit? If it came from us (Cruiser Outfitters) we offer those short bolts for free and your kit should have shipped with the hardware kit. Lmk

Those are NOT metric bolts (In the picture)! The markings on the bolt head says its a Grade 8 std. bolt (Probably) 7/16 (head size).
The holes in the frame mounted bracket should be threaded for a 8mm (12mm head) land Cruiser bolt 8.0 x 1.25 mm.

Clarified, Edited and Corrected
Thanks Kurt

????

They are most certainly 8x1.25mm thread pitch. Installed hundreds of them fwiw.

40's with small eye leaf springs (non-OME) can use the OE bolt which is the same length as the 6x/7x variant on our fit kits (sorry, not something we sell, they are complimentary in all our suspension kits)

Mine were stripped out and replaced with 1/4"-20 bolts & nuts by the PO. They worked ok with the stock bushings but when I installed OME springs with the larger bushings there was no room for the nuts. I ran a 5/16"-24 tap in there and used 5/16" cap screws cut down to the right length. Yours may not be stripped though and the correct bolts may work just fine.
