So I go in to replace the knock sensor (which it turns out had the wire severed a varmint) and notice free oil in the bottom of the manifold. Now about 4000 miles ago I pulled the mani and thoroughly cleaned out the pre-existing oil as part of starter service. I replaced the PCV at that time.

1999 TLC, 5w-30 Mobil 1.

Maybe I need to go dino with the oil due to blow-by?? IDK

I have been surprised how much oil makes it into the intake via pcv! Every 100 I have looked at seems to have a good bit of oil in the intake.
I ordered a catch tank to plumb in line with the pcv but have not had the chance yet. This is more popular in the tuner and race world but worth looking into.
Oil in the intake will eventually cause excessive carbon build up in the combustion chamber.

I am also worried about fouling the cat $$$. My own post jogged my memory. There is actually a FAQ in the 80 section regarding the catch can install........not as much room for the can on a 100 series....

I replaced my starter and PCV, about a day later I also went searching for a small inline filter with a drain, hose barb, petcock, whatever.
Inlet and outlet needs to match ID size of OEM stock connections, but be small enough to sit under the plastic engine cover piece.
Metal top with a screw on plastic see though canister would be ideal, imho.

I looked at my usual spots online and haven't found anything worth trying yet as far a filters go.
I found this just now online- I would like something like this.

Based on all the highileage 2uz's out there, if this casued and issue, we'd know about it.

I agree with that, my intake valves look good at 175k miles. To me it's the cleanliness of the intake and doing anything I could do to maintain the VE of the engine as it was when it was new. The longer the efficiency is maintained the longer everything downstream of the butterfly will last.

No major issues are caused but the over all performance can suffer.

I have catch cans on a couple of rides but not the 100. They defiantly catch a good amount of oil that would be returned to the intake to try and reburn.

1. The blow by reduces octane
2. It can cause build up so the Mobil1 may serve you better as it is more resistant to heat than the dino
3. Finding a good catch can is a problem as there are many designs and there are a few that work well. I have done extensive testing in performance applications and the best designs I have used still allow a very scant amount through. Be prepared to spend 100 for a good confirmed design. Yes, cheap designs and certain filter set ups will catch oil but, limited.
4. You need to keep an eye on it a dump regularly as it collects oil and condensation and small ones can fill quickly. Not a ton but, a regular maintenance.

Thing that puzzles me is my 100's that I have don't use any oil between 5k service intervals. In the performance applications I use cans on they use some oil. I wouldn't think it would be a huge issue with the 4.7.

It sure would not hurt to put one on and it will reduce the amount of oil in the intake. As we start to see more of these motors pushing over 200k now we may find that carbon build up can be an issue. The fact that the blow by mixes with our fuel mixture will mitigate it somewhat. If I were running forced induction I would have one on my vehicle for sure.

I'm not sure if I will put one on the 100. Maybe after reading this post. Thanks for push!

It would be interesting to compare difference in amount of oil accumulation in a catch can with conventional vs. synthetic oil. I'll bet much less with synthetic.

I'm still scratching my head how this liquid gets in these pockets. I did fog with Sea Foam before splitting open the intake halves. Split Intake Manifold take a look & Gaskets & Seals Poll

I to dealt wire Mickey & Minnie nesting under intake. Dealer has wire and housing connects for knock sensor & starter. The Raychem splicer worked very nice for splice. Knock sensor wire cut, what do I do HELP

What is concerning is how fast the ponding oil redeveloped after the entire induction system was completely cleaned.....About 4000 miles.

Here is a can I use that works well. I think it could be modified for the 100.

Yo
THANKS!!!!!!!!!!!! That is also what I need. I went to the dealer (only a few miles away they said they only have the sub-harness to sell, and didn't try to push it on me)
You're welcome. You'll see in the link I provided I had some great help working through the splice, from others.

As for the toyoa parts, I've been working with same guy at Toyota Dealer for over 13 years. He's great at finding what I need. Only once did I have to give him a part #, which turned out to be from none 100 series.

P/n for the wire lead that fits into the connector, for posterity

Thanks

I was able to decipher the lead p/n and using trial and error on the search function
