Official Supercharger Owner's Thread: Would you supercharge all over again?

I would SC again in a second.. If you live in the mountains and/or tow it makes a huge difference. If you live in the mountains and also tow (me) it would be highly recommended! I may add that intercooling mine made as big of a difference in power as the charger did in the first place, now it's twice as nice.... Almost feels fast..

Another vote of YES. I bought it already installed by PO. Big smile on my face every time I drive it.

I'm amazed at how briskly these are selling, all things considered in terms of the price of a unit plus the added costs associated with running one.

Just shipped three today!!

ps: personally, I like my LC slow and low.

Beno,
Do you have one that can be opened? It would be interesting to see if TRD addressed a couple of installation issues. One is with the length of the wiring harness (could be a little longer)

What is the length of the wiring harness?
Another issue is the fan. Are they still shipping the ringed fan?
Are you aware of any other changes they made with the "new" TRD SC kit?

If a turbo and a supercharger were on the menu for the same price and all other things being equal, that is, a complete package for both including all parts required, I would go for the turbo. Since this is not the case (at least it was not the case while I was in the market for forced induction), I would supercharge again.

Well I guess you can order one for me, open it, list all the contents, take a few pictures, then cancel my order. :D

Beno,

you are scaring the s*** out of me. I have been waiting for Dan to get into town so I can place my order. From what I have heard, there are only about 50 or so in the whole US, probably a lot less by now.

Buying one of these things is the only way I can get this nagging little voice out of the back of my head. It is constantly whispering "Roots-type supercharger, Roots-type supercharger."

Can I place the order though you tomorrow and still get the CDan discount? Or will the Shamen curse me and convert the S/C to a "Junk edition" complete with endless engine problems for not buying it though him?:D

When I drained/flushed my system multiple times over a span of about 1.75 weeks, towards the last few days I noticed the Distilled water was tinged a light brown/orange color. The initial drain/flushes were just with DI water (ie no power flush with graden hose). However, I figured it would be best if I did the backflush with a garden hose-prestone T setup per Eric's writeup.

After the house water backflush, the subsequent DI water drain/fills became light brown/orange color. When collected in a gallon jug and allowed to sit for a few days, the sediment looked awfully close to rust to me. I believe I still have a jug of it in my garage, so I will post a pic if so.

As of now my cooling system appears to be in "tip top shape." I say "appears" because it does not overheat and does not ever get above center line (189* according to the Raven temp gauge mod info) with AC on full blast and moderate outside temps (85-90*).

Whether or not my system will continue to function like this is something only time will tell, especially with the added heat of an S/C. However this "rust colored DI water" has me concerned.

I posted a thread about the rust color here:

https://forum.ih8mud.com/80-series-tech/230847-rust-colored-coolant-flush.html

Regardless, I feel a strong need to get one of these S/C's ordered asap. I will make sure my system is functioning properly before I install it or put any serious mileage on it. BTW, I will be putting less than a 600-700 miles on my 80 in the next year and it is not a daily driver so this should buy me some time to fine tune everything. By this time next year it will need to be a reliable DD, so hopefully everything will be dialed in by then. If not the :princess: is just going to have to share her Civic. :o

nicholas,

beno doesn't have the same pull that Cdan does, so you're screwed!

:D

I'm sure beno would take good care of you. ;)

Alright I'll try calling him over over my lunch hour (11am his time). I just hope Dan doesn't break his itty bitty fingers off for him poaching a sale, and I hope the S/C will come with the same Shamen blessing that my other parts come with.

Just shipped three today!!

What is your extension at American Toyota? If I give you a call, would you be able to give me my tracking number so I can ping the UPS site every 2 hours to see where it's at? :bounce: Its the one you sent to Omaha. Dan told me I was the first order, so I'm betting I was in the 3. I also need to place another order for ball joints on my sister's Siena and a few misc bits for my truck that I thought up after I talked to Dan last.

I won't have time to install it for another month or so, but if there is a call for it I can open the box and take pictures & measurements. My garage time allotment is pretty well consumed from the head gasket install on my wife's truck last week/weekend.

I'm not at work today, but will be there tomorrow.

Any of the other employees at American can help you as well--Jim, Antonio, or Tom are all good people who have the same ability to get you the CDan discount.

If you are interested in tracking information, call American and ask for the shipping manager Don....he can get you your tracking #

Trust me, these aren't going anywhere that quick. I don't think there will be a problem ordering one up and getting it pretty quickly.

Feel free to call American and ask for either Jim, Antonio, or Tom and they can order one up for you.

I really don't do any ordering (except for me-self....;) )...I make sure you get your parts...

:)

I took the plunge

I just placed my order 20 min ago, I can't remember who helped me though. I got the same CDan discount and shipping was around $45. I was order #9. I think the biggest problem I am going to have is talking the :princess:into letting me install it.

I bought Truck Monkeys S/C 97 and have been pleased with the performance...especially after the 4:88 install. I will second what other have said about making the truck a better performer but by no means will it be fast. The big difference between my old 94 and my 97 is when you hit the gas at 65mph, it actually accelerates up to 75mph without too much trouble.

Now that I think about it, my stock 07 Taco would blow the doors off my geared and S/C TLC from 0 to 60mph.

Hey Doug,

What size tire are you rnning with the 4.88's? I remember going for a ride in a friends TRD S/C'd 1998 Taco V6 4"lift, stock gears and 33" BFG mudders, nine years ago. IIRC that thing screamed. It seemed like the fastest truck I had ever been in. I don't expect my 80 to be that fast, just a bit more pep going over passes loaded with gear and the fam and when towing someday when I get a tent trailer.

9 already? Wow. Not bad for 10+ years old truck.

Nicholas,
I am running 315/70R16 (35") BFG KM2 tires on stock rims.

My 07 Tacoma is not supercharged but still has a very good power band straight from the factory. It pulls my pop-up camper over the Colorado hills like its nothing and still gets 20mpg.

Whoa...so who does she think should install it?

Let me know if she'd like a copy of my auto repair C.V. and I'll take the $$$$$$ to put it on! Hell, I'd even set you up with free lodging while I take your truck apart, breaking things and leaving you stranded in Chicago!
