It's not that she doesn't trust me, she just doesn't want me to spend the little time we have together griding off my knuckles wrenching and getting greasy. Geeze, last time I was wrenching I came in the house with melted shock bushing rubber in my hair from using a torch to heat the mounting studs-don't ask. As you know I spend about 12 hours a day studying drugs, bugs, and the reasons why CDan wears a wide brimmed hat (presumably to avoid basal cell carcinoma out there in the desert), so she doesn't like cruiser wrenching time but she is usually really patient about it. Hopefully she doesn't get curious and open up the invoice when a huge box from American Toyota shows up on the porch next week, or I might never see the patient side of her again.

Amen to that huh? Working on/fixing your car/truck/boat/motorcycle/snowmobile/Jet Ski or working on your co-workers car/truck/boat/motorcycle/snowmobile/Jet Ski all the time gets old fast!

Having the time to actually drive or ride your car/truck/boat/motorcycle/snowmobile/Jet Ski is nice!

What is your extension at American Toyota? If I give you a call, would you be able to give me my tracking number so I can ping the UPS site every 2 hours to see where it's at? Its the one you sent to Omaha. Dan told me I was the first order, so I'm betting I was in the 3.

Well, I was wrong. It didn't go out yesterday. It went out the day before yesterday. It looks like I'll have it tomorrow.

So, what measurements/pictures does everyone want from the unboxing tomorrow night?

Man now I can't wait for this thing to show up.

So since these things produce a lot of heat, have any of you that do not have an intercooler noticed better performance during the cold winter months? The midwest gets mighty cold, so I might not look into an intercooler or JDM fan until next spring.

having mine installed now

the shop should finish up with my sc install today. toyota store in erie has a couple of techs really into these. i'll post the outcome when i drive it home this weekend. does anyone have stas on before and after hp, economy and the like? all is going well with the install. the new pulley on the idler was damaged b/f it was put in the bag/box they ordered another one no problem and the wiring harness was long enough but tough to work with, they matched up sheathing colors and fabed a plug in harness. again if anyone has stats on these i'd love to see them.

I bet you are excited to drive it home!

There is a guy in Houston that is going to do a 4 wheel dyno test before/after test beginning this weekend.

Does anybody know the part numbers on these plugs? Or is is just easier to splice in more wire to extend them?

Hmmm, maybe I'll have to take I-70 home for the holidays instead of I-80 to experience that feeleing, but I would think that Eisenhower tunnel and that pass would be a biznatch in the winter with piled up stranded semi's and minivans.

In regards to the original question, I am glad I bought an S/C and I would do it again.

The install was super easy with all the info available here on mud.

I have not had any problems with overheating but I have not tested it in weather over 94* yet. But in 94* weather in slow moving wheeling conditions I have have not broken 200*.

I am satisfied with the power increase and the LX now feels like it should instead of a lunker.

I look forward to putting a lot of miles on it this winter break and test it out on some mountain passes.

As of today it sounds like there are about ~20 S/C's available.

Boost guage is a good idea, I think injector "flow" matching is a total waste of money, just run premium gas thru it, and a can of techron every few oil changes.

Recommend the Sumotoy PCV mod, and the A/C fan mod for summertime hooked with the Sumotoy Pressure Switch mod. Glad you found the install easy, IIRC my notations on install was only to follow the TRD steps exactly, and I'm sure you found that out.

94 FZJ80 Supercharged

I'm installing a supercharger as I right this. I elected to send out the injectors to RC Engineering to have them cleaned and balanced. Attached is the spec sheet I received back with the injectors.

I'll let the sheet speak for itself as far as whether it was a good idea or not.

As far as we know. They discontinued it for a couple of years then made a limited run of ~60?? or so. It's a niche market.

94 FZJ80 Supercharged

I was thinking about installing my S/C with a couple of midwest SC owners, but I have very limited amounts of spare time and I have only had one free weekend this semester. So I just installed my SC by myself in my garage late at night after school for a couple hours at a time. Got it done in about a week (IIRC ~15-18hrs).


I actually just did the boost gauge a couple of weeks ago. It's nice knowing what is actually going on with the engine as far as when it is in boost and vac etc. It's also nice to know that I don't have any leaks and that I am pushing the max PSI that the system is capable of.

It's a really nice plug and play system and it's nice to have minimum guess work. Everything fit nicely and the only glitch is the well known TPS/IAC wire extension which is kind of a PITA. Definitely a really good bang for the buck especially if bought with the smart shopper discount through CDan.

I added some 10000CST fluid to my blue hub and I would like to add an aux fan for good measure. The OEM toyota aux fan would be nice and something I'd like to have in the future, but for now I have been looking at some cheapo advanced auto 10" fan while $$ is tight if I do run into problems with heat.

I think the injector cleaning and balancing is a good idea. I wanted to do that when I installed the S/C but I went with the Rick's MAF instead since it is a custom item and I can always send the injectors out in the future. I have really liked the performance gaines from the MAF.

I probably should do the sumotoy bypass soon. I'm not sure if it has been covered yet, but did we ever come to a final consensus on whether or not it is detrimental to have excess oil passed through the blower unit?

Unless another 20 people step up with about $3400, I think you will be ok if you want to purchase next year (2009).

That said, this was a limited run of these and I do not know how long the remaining 20 or so will last. You have to remember that the supercharger is available to all dealers nationwide, not just American Toyota.

CDan just happens to sell the most of them....probably.

I can't wait to get back to the States and get my S/C on the truck. All of these posts and talks of S/Cs has me more than ready to start putting mine on...10,000 miles is much too far away to be kept from an 80 and its S/C.
