All this color code talk has me wondering what my pig looked like of the line. I was convinced i had a 1970 fj55015513. But my color code couriosity made me break out the flash light. The driver door says Nov. 1969 fj5515513. and the frame number under the hood says the same. I look thru pig picks all the time, and rarely see one that has the same blinker set up. the title and the truck are very close . i don't know what my question is, but i always knew she was special.fj55 1970/1969

Funny, mine is a 69' that has a 71' title. The body and frame numbers match and the vin matches the title # and it is registered as a 71', but has all the markings of a 69'. The story I got was it had sat at a dealership until 71' and got sold and tiltled in 71' but is acually a 69':whoops:

I picked up this 77 model FJ55 a few weeks ago. Is this a stock color? Looking around, most of the other 55s are two tone. If you can read the color code on the engine tag, it reads 854 EA12. CCOTS has 854 listed as sky blue.

I haven't heard of that as late as yours is, but it was once very common. Many 60s era cruisers have a brass tag stamped with the year it was sold screwed in at the VIN plate.

I've not seen a solid colored stock pig before unless it was all white.

My plan is to paint the roof metalic white, the middle part metallic blue, and the bottom, Metalic red ;p Most likely, the bottom half will be chrysler viper red. To match my 40.

Any color would beat what it is now.

I will have to hit moty up again.

A few years ago well before mudd.... I came in contact with guy from Japan that was restoring his FJ55. He had a ton of information from the factory on the pigs. How many were made of each year and what kinds. Percentages for each year on what country they were shipped to. Paint codes and just about everything you would ever need to know about pigs.

I gave the information to Morgan Fletcher and he posted it on his website. Now that information no longer is there. But I was able to track down the guy with all the original information. Only thing is he is on a Japanese language only site. I gave the info to another mudder in Japan with hopes he would be able to gather the information from this fellow and make any copies and then give them to us. It has been some time and I forgot to keep up with it. So I will now get off my butt and see if we can get something going.

Sorry I didnt get to this sooner as it would answer many of the questions sought.

Grease,

Here is a link to a previous thread re: the white change out date. Back then, I had mad skills (access to the BASF puters....call it the HAL 9000). It was 1978 when they switched the white from 012 to 031. https://forum.ih8mud.com/fj55-iron-...ty/135472-need-paint-codes-55-blue-white.html

I no longer have the mad skills (ability) to tap into the BASF HAL 9000....something I should try to regain I suppose.

I've been looking around for this, and I think I'm more confused than when I started. Between the 012 Cygnus white, and the 031 white (which I think came later): Can anyone definitively tell me which is "creamier" looking? Or less "bright white" if you don't like the "creamier" description?

Still haven't got back into the BASF HAL 9000 puter so I'll do this from memory... but any Paint Supplier (they obviously have the mad skills ability) could easily confirm my memory correct (or not) by looking up the the formulas (012, 031, and 033) seeing the tints (and amounts) added in to make each color. If they have mixed any paint at all thet can tell by looking at the formulas which is refridgerator white on down to somewhat creamy. And yes...just for fun I'll added one more white to the mix :grinpimp:

From feable memory the whitest to creamiest....012>031>033 The 033 came on the the scene @ 1980.

My Oct 78 55 has paint code 277 on the data plate and was originally a green and white truck. The green looks exactly like rustic green to me but is just called "green" from what I can find. The white looks like the 031 cygnus that it should be. The truck is all white now, which I think looks terrible so it is going back to a two tone paint scheme, I just need to figure out which one.

I've squirted 031 and 033 because I am also not a fan of Kelvinator white....and I think hence forth I will remain married to 033. But thats just me. I've got some Kelvinator (yes even brighter white than 012 by far) on a recently acquired 76 40....it bugs me a little looking at it but it is a trail rig so doing a re-squirt of the top and bezel falls somewhere down the list behind world peace and global domination. Good luck !!!

<<Mini Hijack>>

Welcome to the sty Sheehan! Great looking Piggie! It looks like one that used to live down here in Bend for years... I also saw it for sale on Craig's List. Nice score! Are you going to start your own build thread?! Just curious...

Was able to gain entry into the Dupy HAL 9000...they'll probably snuff me out again  but here ya go John.

We sure could use that info! It would be great if you could get it...

Nuclearlemon - I have a buddy repainting his pumpkin orange 55. Could you please give me the code for the color from this pic that you posted? Looks like 415, but I want to be sure. Thanks....

Actually, I blew it up a bit and I think it reads as Pueble Brown. This rig is definitely the Pumpkin Orange. Does anyone have the code for it? I know about the Al Jacobs recipe, but that looks a bit too orange. Is Pollux Orange the same as Pumpkin Orange?

Thanks CruiserStuff!!
I scoured the interwebs this weekend and did not find anything positive. So far everything points me to the Al Jacobs recipe. Hopefully somebody can shed some light on the pumpkin color mystery. Thanks again for all the help CS!

Here is Pollux Orange ???txt.title??? Cars/Toyota Lexus/TOY_LEX 1968-1989/TOY 1968-1980/008800.jpg&mode=fullscrn

AFAIK, Pollux is punkin. Much in the same way Royal Blue is smurf blue.

Ah....dam linkie no workie...let me do this a different way.......

Code is 304 and Dupy stock code is 43089D. For some reason...at this point...i can't pull up the formula but any Auto Paint supplier can do it based on these numbers.

toddslater - Thanks so much! It could just be my monitor, but it looks like the Pollux Orange has a bit more red to it than I was thinking it should to match. But, maybe, that's the effect of 35 years of fading and oxidation....

Here's what we're trying for...

grncobra - Hey, we'll get it right! Happy to help. Did you, by chance, find anything on the vin tag that shows a color code?

Here's a zoom of the Pollux Orange chip:

See, the Pollux looks a lot more red. Of course, there are a million things that could skew: sunlight, angle, etc, etc...

Here's a chip (but I think it reads Pueblo Brown 415) from a post from Nuclearlemon whichs looks close, but I really don't think it's the right color:
