I'll have to double check, but I'm 99% sure it's in high. Also, I am not sure the speedo has been calibrated since everything has been completed.

A couple of questions:

1. Do you have a tachometer?
2. You have the H55 transmission, correct?

If you have the H55 and a tachometer, in high range, you should see the approximates (verify with a GPS speedo):

- Fourth gear, 2000rpm, equals ~45mph
- Fifth gear, 2000rpm, equals ~53mph

I suspect that you are in low range. If you were, then this is what you'd see:

- Fourth gear, 2000rpm, equals ~19mph
- Fifth gear, 2000rpm, equals ~24mph

The low range example is much closer to what you described in a previous post.

I'm with @mtweller . I bet that another 10% overdrive (as a result of the transfer case gears) would get you into a comfortable 70mph at roughly 2500rpm while also giving you better crawling ability.

Alternately, if you went to 3.73 gears, you'd be at roughly 2000rpm @ 70mph, so that might be better. It really depends on your motor's powerband and ideal cruising speed. FWIW I'm running 3.73s with my 4BT and 37" tires right now. Very soon I will be moving back to 35s for a highway tire.

I believe there's one in Durham. I think they call it Johnny's garage :hillbilly:

With 4.11's, H55F and the AA 4:1 TC gears, I'm 2600RPM in 5th at 70mph - 2800 at 75mph. That's w/ 315 AT's (roughly 35's). I won't be able to tell you with my 37's but the math is pretty easy if you want to look it up.

1. No
2. Yes

I'm taking the 60 in next week to have them look over it and hopefully fix up the tach and give it a look at anything else that could be needing repairs.

Right, now I'll just cruise around 55 and not push the engine too much.

Oh Johnny, want to tell me how to change out some gears?

@tgadd

Go ahead and start up a thread on your new truck or a thread specific to an issue so we can keep this one from turning into yours. No offense meant, but Johnny and Ramon will likely give you MANY things to ask questions about that shouldn't clog up this thread! It also makes the search function easier for when you forgot who said what.

That said, just drive the thing for a bit and see what you think. I had a hankerin' to go roam the neighborhoods for your truck today but didn't wanna seem all stalker. I'm around for a few hours before lunch tomorrow, though, if you'd like to show it off...

image.jpg image.jpg Here is my 03. I installed a Dissent bumper last Sunday and will add LEDs to it in the coming weeks. Last year, with krzyabncanuck help we installed a 2.5" OME lift with new control arms and diff drop.

So I was doing my annual under carriage sanding and painting, and found a can of red. All rust is gone. My buddies here hate it. I like it though. Even Megan likes it. Sporty sliders. High glossed black underneath. Everything used to be flat black.

Cleaning out some files on my PC and stumbled across some pics of my previous 80 series and seeing how this thread has been dead since September of last year I thought I'd revive it for the 80 series fanboys! :grinpimp:

Man I miss that rig!!
