This is my other truck that my wife said was "too polished".

I have a 2015 Trail Premium I picked up for my wife. We both love the truck. Ironically, of 3 4WD Toyotas, it's the only one with a locker, and the only one that will see ZERO trail time....for now anyway.

Welcome to the club. You'll be glad you joined.

Hmmm. Time for axle swap. :D

The thought has crossed my mind...

Just picked up my 94 yesterday, joined the club tonight. She needs a new valve cover gasket, various hoses, belts, etc, (which I would love assistance with) but overall a solid truck./QUOTE]

Are you a Wingate native? I bet some of us might already know you if you are. I served time at Camden Rd in the early 90's. ;)

Nice 4Runner. I was thinking of purchasing one of those and then decided impractical was better.

Thanks, I figure in 10-15 years I can turn that into a trail rig. Its funny the 15 4runner is almost the exact same wheel base, width, height, and weight as the 94 LC. Of the first 3 days of ownership my wife has taken it two of them.

Not a native. I am the Town Manager down there and my wife is a professor at the University. She also served time on Camden Rd.

The 60 was delivered today. Goodness gracious it's huge. Going to give it a while as is, but kind of have a feeling it's going to return to a normal level if possible.

Love the 60 and the awesome bronco.

I love it!!! Can't wait to see it!! Those are 37" tires, right? Do you know what diff gears you have?

Yessir. 37s with 4.88 gears. I think it needs taller gears because I'm not going to be doing too much crawling in it.

Sweet rig. If you like the on-road manners of the 4.88s, maybe consider:

I went from 465 / 4sp tcase to H55F / split case with these gears. Pretty simple install and in the same price range as doing a R&P swap. Do note this does give a 10% overdrive in high range.

Whew. I loved my FJ62, hated the gas mileage, and so bought this purely based on the diesel conversion. I'm a complete noob when it comes to how vehicles work. So you're going to have to explain some more.

What are these on-road manners you are talking about? I'm shifting to 4th at 25mph and 5th at 45mph? I don't think I could cruise at 65-70mph.
This 4:1 low range gear set, does that just help with crawling? I guess the overdrive would help with cruising at higher speeds with lower RPMs.

Besides the labor and the gears, what else is needed for changing the axle gearing? That $1500 price tag was pretty big on that kit.

Master install kits for each differential.

Assuming you aren't going to a differential ratio that came stock in a 60 or an 80 (rear diff of 80s only of course) then you're looking at ~450 for gears and a master install kit for each diff. Add labor not only of disassembly and reassembly of the differentials themselves, but also a rebuild of the front axle (usually runs $6-800 by itself) as well as the rear axle (couple hundred) then you're easily looking at more than $1500.

This is all assuming you are paying someone to do the work, not doing it yourself.

It's worth some serious consideration.

If you're shifting into fourth at 25mph, then you are in low range. Shift the transfer case into high range and give it another go.

I'll have to double check, but I'm 99% sure it's in high. Also, I am not sure the speedo has been calibrated since everything has been completed.

Yep. That would be an accurate assumption. I have no tools, no space, and no knowledge. I was hoping there would be one of those hackerspaces with a auto shop in Charlotte, but no such luck.
