All I know is I was going to buy it from the original owners and I talked to everyone up there and talked to the EPA and they all told me this. It leaked for decades.

Yeah, that's pricey to fix... When I worked at Northrop Grumman, Fairchild Aerospace, who owned the site before us, used to drain the chemicals from the strip rack in to the adjacent retention pond... It cost millions and we were responsible for the cleanup. So yeah, that would explain the $116K price tag.

About a decade ago the original owners talked to me and Robin about buying it from them. I was still active duty at the time and had no clue about running a business. Am glad I did not buy it. Was sad for me when the kids bought it and put a bar in it . I knew they would not be able to keep it long as I know too much about how stuff happens up there or does not happen and the politics involved.

I don't think that's something one can walk away from. Either the land owner and/or the fuel company ill have to clean it up. As Darin pointed out, clearly been an issue for many years, owners know about it, no way they could sell the property without a clean up.

Too bad, it is a nice spot and can see why Darin's been interested in it. Sadly, it will continue to deteriorate, turn into an eye sore...

It all depends upon the sale. If it is caught in the diligence process, you can force the seller to eat the cost of clean-up or if you can negotiate the environmental liability associated with any past or existing underground tanks to NOT transfer to the new owners, you could purchase this place w/o taking on the liability ... but not likely.

I see this sort of thing all the time in large timberland transactions. It is why a part of the due diligence process is always a Phase I Environmental Survey.

A couple of friends and I looked at buying the old camp Bird mine superintendent's house outside of Ouray about 10 years ago to renovate and run as a B&B but could not get around being the last owner in a 100 year history of mining and the associated environmental liability.

Someone quick. Grab up this rare FJ-85 !!!
http://winstonsalem.craigslist.org/cto/4909144976.html

Of course if you want a rare 99 uzj there's one of those too.

Craig's folks crack me up. Also a non running rusted forty for 8k but price is going back up to 12 since he's had no luck in last 3 mos. lol

What? No mention of "rust in the usual places, easily repaired"?

A 4x4 lbs bumper with single swing out is also on my list. I've not even looked at the price for a kit.
$595 no swing out
$895 with single swing out
$995 with dual swing out

These are unfinished kits that need to be welded together. I don't know what shipping would cost.

As per Luke, the kits ship in multiple boxes via FedEx Ground. $125 to 28226 either business or residential. Assembled bumpers are about $250 to business and $500 to residential, and they come truck freight.

Don't forget to post up and see if there is enough for another group buy. IIRC he doesn't discount price (won't hurt to ask) but splits shipping between the group. Only downside is one shopping location.

Just thought I'd mention since it seems 4 folks at least are after a rear bumper

Edit 3. Slee inbound to 72fj40

I am in for a 80 rear bumper kit, one spindle I already buy spindles from Luke and mine is a commercial address.

Anyone know of any 100s for sale in NC? A friend is looking for a tow vehicle for his camper and has narrowed it down to a 100. Ideally earlier years without the air suspension and nav, but he's flexible if a good low milage one comes up. Thought the ONSC crew might have heard of one that isn't listed on craiglist.

I've got a nice 2004 4Runner that has the V8 that I could sell and deliver around April 12th when I move down. We could do something faster if need be.

Same engine/tranny as 100. It has the extra heavy OME rear springs, so would be ideal for towing vs other options in this platform or the 100. Was set up for expedition - never explored much :)

Dual IBS Battery back up
ARB Air on board, but no air locker (just use for tires at the moment)
OME 2.5" lift
Baja Rack
Kenwood High End Big Screen Stereo
Nice leather with front Okole covers
~134K miles
Newer Duratrac's (~4K miles on them).
ARB Front Bumper

We are looking to sell both 4Runners (long term) and get 1 FZJ80. I would want around $14K for it.

Yes - Was planning on trading it in for a newer/new Prius in Raleigh upon arrival. 178K miles. Has had the following things done at Lexus in the last two years: Timing belt water pump, new center locker actuator seal, new radiator, newer tires, AC flushed, inspected, filled. It is all stock.
