Arguably the best winch Warn ever made, 8274's are simple in operation and infinitely rebuildable. Every part is available from Warn and there is an entire aftermarket based on this one model. I wouldn't hesitate to buy one used. In fact, if I could find three or four inop 8274's in the $400 range (each) I would buy them, rebuild them and flip them for about $800. They are a lot of fun to work on. New ones are $1,800. Search Gigglepin for the cool aftermarket mods and hop-up parts. I believe @GLTHFJ60 recently installed a faster and more powerful motor on his. Some before and after pics of my 8274 rebuild:

Completely agreed. Out of all the winches out there, the 8274 is the easiest to rebuild and has the best aftermarket support. I put a motor out of a 15k warn winch on mine and it seems to be much faster than a stock 8274.

This is saying a lot seeing as how the 8274 is already the fastest winch on the planet in stock form!

Fact check edit: Wow! It looks like after 43+ years at the top of the line speed heap, the 8274 has finally been knocked off by a ComeUp winch. 8274 is 79.3 ft./min and ComeUp MadX is 82 ft. min.

This is the reason why I want to buy it. I already overbuilt the s*** out the truck. Why stop now. Also, I plan to eventually use the truck for events like 36 hour challenge and possibly the Vermont rally challenge. So I figure in those type of situations speed and reliability might be key factors to think about having in a winch.

Do you guys think it would block the radiator too much?

Nope! If you're concerned about it, you can move the solenoid pack to under the hood.

WANTED:
A good optometrist in the greater Charlotte area who will actually listen to me and work towards my needs instead of getting me in and out quickly. My needs aren't anything weird but I've not been happy with the last few guys I've seen. It'd be great if they WEREN'T associated with chain store that sells glasses but if they're that good...

If you bid on it I'll get it. I buy from there all the time. Just bought an oil tank.

The local guy with the 1966 stout is still having problems unloading it. Current price is $7000. Pretty cool truck IMO.

Also, this is too much for what it is... but I like it a lot as a basis for a trail rig carrier....

The price of old iron is continually rising. What was junk, rusting in a field for the last 30 years is now "unmolested" with a great amount of "patina". "Rust in all the usual places" is a personal favorite of mine. God I hate rust.
