General full is 3/4 of tread width is acceptable rim width.

Ie 75% of 12.5 tread gives you 8" for the rim width
I never had problems running the 13.5 iroks on a 7.5" rim; just adjusted pressure accordingly to get even wear.

Or you could look at the tire manufactures web site for recommended tire width. Different tires have different requirements. My 37x12.50 were on 8.25 x 16.5 rims, and probably would have been better off on a 6.75 because the width at the bead was really narrow to the point of being hard to mount. Where as most tires that size on a 16" rim would recommend a 10" rim. 9.75 is the next step up on 16.5" rim, and I think getting them mounted would be near impossible. Not all tires are created equally.

While I agree in principle, the good years that you and I run are the exception to the rule. They were designed to be installed on two-piece beadlock wheels, not regular steelies.

Exception to the rule. Not all tires created equal. Toe may toe, Toe mat-oh General rules of thumb generally work, except when they don't. It certainly can't hurt to look at the manufactures recommendations, it's generally a 30 second web search, which is probably faster than some of these guys can calculate 75% of anything. 37" KM2s on 17x8 (4.5 BS) Cragar Soft 8 wheels. I wanted to go with either Mickey Thompsons or Black Rock Yuma wheels but these were available now and they were cheap. Also have a Slee 4" lift. The only trimming I'll need is on the mud flaps where it barely rubs when fully stuffed.

No man, I agree with you. I also recommend going with the manufacturer's recommendation, especially with a new tire, as I'm sure the manufacturer's warranty would be invalidated by running a rim size that's not listed on their site.

Anyone tried the Falken Wildpeak AT's in 325/80R16? Looks like they are around a 36.5" tire. Saw them on a JK and they looked like a good all rounder. Seem to get decent reviews everywhere I have read. Anyone have them on there 80?

Haven't run them, but I have also heard a lot of good things about them. My buddy is running them on a halfton Chevy and has no complaints, although it sees mostly hwy duty.

Falken's are great tires. I watched them work on the trail a few times and was impressed.

Have them on my wife's JK and have liked them.

One problem I have with them though is that the center tread blocks and outer most tread blocks have shallower depth between them than the rest. So at around 25k miles on them now the center of the tire is pretty much one uninterrupted rib and the outer most blocks are close. Frustrating because the rest of the tread depth is still very deep.

Thanks for the replies guys, kind of what i have found in my searches. Look forward to see them on a 80 at some point. They are on my "next tire" list but I only have 45k kms on my 35" duratrac's that still have 80+% tread left.

Looking for new tires and want to make the jump to 37's. 345/75/16 BFGs are on backorder everywhere with no estimated availability date. 325/80/16 Cooper STTs are discontinued. The Falken 325/80/16 are not aggressive enough. Looks like Swamper TRXUS are the only option readily available? Any I'm missing? It might be easier to just jump to a 17" rim.

Do the wrangler MTR's come in a 345/75/16? I'm running 17's and haven't had issues finding tires.

Largest MTR is a 315 for a 16" wheel.

Here is my 93 purchased from Evan938 as a stock triple locked 80 on toyo 285/75-16 Taco steelies. Since purchase I have done a full maintenance of the engine and a work around for the PHH issue. I replaced the factory stereo with a double din DVD/nav unit and replaced all 4 door speakers with pioneers. Cobra 40channel hidden away in the center console with a 48" firestik antenna. I added a safari snorkel a warn XR 10000 and a custom 3link built off of the same design as Shawn Jackson's 80. I used TJM 7" coils front and rear and 1" poly spacers up front to help level it out, stainless braided lines at all 4 corners with stainless drop lines and she now sits on 40x13.5R17 Toyo open country M/T's with black ProComp rock crushers with 3.25 backspacing and the 1" wheel spacers it came with for 2.25 backspace total. No trimming and no broken bits to speak of yet. 4 months and no problems yet" fingers crossed"
