and where were you and your infinite wisdom yesterday buddy? I could have saved myself a little bit of $.Should have known Youtube would have the anarchists version of making proprietary tools. good lead nonetheless

Drilling a hole in the plate and chassis and inserting a riv but wouldn't have cost $20 for fs sake. Sounds to me like you got taken for a ride, and not by Slee.

Incidently for anyone not in possession of a rivnut tool they can be made in heart beat with a simple small piece of scrap flat sheet or Aluminum. There's a YouTube clip showing how. Takes all of about 1 minute to make.

rivet nut , rivnut demo video using simple home m…:

Did you even read what happened? The whole point was not to put a rivnut on it at all.

Yes I read it. Back then and again now. All of it including your then reply. I remember it then too but re-reading doesn't make you seem like any less of a prat. Slee's reply and response was entirely reasonable and a couple of extra rivnuts would have been entirely acceptable as a temporary measure while Slee worked a captive nut solution. Your deliberately slanted, graceless and stupid post, one page back, deserves to be called out for what it is.

Well, we just have different opinions on what to expect when we buy high end off road parts. Sorry if you couldn't comprehend anything I was trying to get across.

About how long should it take to install these Slee sliders? Trying to see if this is a good night garage job or better left for a half day-er on Saturday.
Stock running /step boards are still on currently.
Thanks

With the correct drill bit and parts and a riv tool no reason it should take more than 2 or 3 hours max. Less on a hoist. Easiest with a cold beer or 2 to smooth the endeavor. Seem to remember one or two of the brake line brackets were a little tricky to get back on over the slider brackets but not a overly difficult issue. Remember to have some primer paint handy to seal any freshly drilled holes in the frame if you need to add them. Otherwise its all pretty straight forward.

Excellent
Thank you

I spent about 4 hours of actual install time... About six hours running around getting the proper tools lol. The drill bit is an odd size you won't find it at Home Depot or lowes, make sure to get a dremmel tool. The Land cruiser frame is tough I went through 2 drill bits... I didn't have a lift or anything I just laid under the truck....

If it were me, get all the tools ready and have a full day! if you finish early!! Now you have the rest of the day to relax

Key is to use pilot drill bit, start from 1/4" go upto desired size hole in steps. Dip tip of drill bit in grease. This keeps drill bit cooler and it lasts longer. Hope this helps.

I am also interested minimum gap between sliders and body to account for body flex since I am going to be designing my own.

Step one

I do like me some Eagle Rare! 10 yr?

Yes sir

We went through a number of bit sharpening cycles while drilling through the frame even when using high quality bits and pilots. Drill doctor 500x or 750 and I'd suggest the extra few seconds to throw the cross point back on :). This is a much faster job with super sharp bits.

The Slee slider install went well. I purchased the rivet nut tool and a big ole 17/32 drill bit from Slee. The frame is stout and took a while to drill through - hot metal raining down on your hand / arm is a real nice feeling. These are quality sliders, hardware and instructions. I like the new look and I can feel the weight in my ride - or thats what it feels like - a tank.
thanks for the tips and advice guys

well, lets see some pics Willy Beamin!

Nice one Willie. I can almost guarantee you there will come a day when you will be super happy you chose the Slees. They stick out just far enough to hold your panels off banks when 7 tons of cruiser slams sideways and strong enough to save your sills from rocks. They do all that while at the same time looking great. As Kreiten suggests: pics or it never happened. :)

Stainless steel silver or black infill panels? Slee sent me both at no extra cost. Thinking about trying the black panels one of these days.

I would also think they would increase the structural rigidity of the frame?

No doubt.
