I recently purchased a 2016 Land Cruiser and picked up an OME suspension upgrade. I'd originally planned on doing the suspension myself, but I haven't made time for it over multiple weekends and recently started shopping for a shop to do the install.

I got a quote from 4 Wheel Parts today for $3900 for the install only at a rate of $500/hr. That would not include any parts. I haven't done business with 4 Wheel Parts before but doesn't that seem ridiculously high? I was expecting to pay around $1000?

At that rate I'll just wait until I have time and knock it out with a buddy and some beer.

Woah!! Run out of that shop!! That is totally ridiculous.

I paid $650. They screwed up...and have since fixed it...but $650 for install of front UCAs, coilers, rear and springs.

Take a drive to Sonoma and let Mudrack (Gary Kardum) work on it Custom Products | Sonoma, CA - Mudrak Custom Cruisers

I would call him first to make sure he works on newer cruisers. Long time cruiser head. When someone broke an axle getting out of the Rubicon, he had them fixed on the trail in 45 minutes ready to drive home. I have known him a long time, if he says he can do it it will be done right.

The quote you got is a rip off. For that you could drive to Colorado and have Slee do it

FWIW, Slee offload was $622 labor to install the front and rear lift and UCAs. Of course I also bought the lift from him

Thanks for confirming my suspicions. I'll give Gary Kardum a call - had no idea there was a Toyota-only shop in my neck of the woods... really appreciate the recommendation.

That is insane! What shop charges $3,900 for labor on a suspension lift? Did that salesman include his wife for that price??? ;)

Who did you talk to? A guy name Gabe works there (assuming you were dealing with the San Jose store) he is a cruiserhead. You should call him.

They saw the 200 Series, and saw dollar signs. What a rip off.

Run away.

That being said, I would suggest doing it yourself; not only will you save a few bucks, but you will gain a ton of experience too. Knowledge gained could be most helpful if something ever fails on the trail, and you will know EXACTLY what to do to get something fixed.

Doing all of my mods myself has been extremely beneficial; I feel like I am really learning a lot, and have a lot of confidence that I can make a repair should a problem ever arise. Just my $0.02.

I was quoted 750 plus tax with the alignment for mine. I did it with a little from friends over the weekend. If you do it I would. That saves you money for sliders or a winch.

The quote was from Victor. I contacted Gary at Mudrak and got a very reasonable quote in line with what y'all have paid. I'm still considering doing the job myself. I'll take another look at some of the install threads/videos to see if I can't talk myself into it. Thanks, folks.

You can't go wrong with Gary. He is very well known in the land Cruiser community and his reputation is well deserved.

I gave 4 Wheel Parts a call this morning and discovered that there was a major miscommunication. I had put a deposit down on wheels, tires, and some other parts (~$2900) that had been delivered to the store but I had not picked up yet. The tech basically added the suspension install to that bill and told me the total was $3900 without explaining the fact that amount included $2900 worth of stuff that I had already paid for.

That still brings the install to $900 which isn't terrible. I probably still going to go the DIY or Mudrak route, though, but thought I'd give y'all an update so I'm not totally dragging 4WP through the mud.

Funny...because I was thinking about your crazy quote again last night, and was wondering if they quoted the price of installation **AND suspension parts** ....which would be very close to that $3900 depending on the suspension...

Glad they aren't total crooks!!!

Indycole,

Thank you for the update - that sounds a lot better. Let me know when you might want to do this. I can stop and give you some liquid courage :)- I am in Mountain View. It won't be that bad to install yourself.:banana:

When I go out to the garage, I have to decide on driving the 200 or my FJ40 which people call a Jeep (Damn it its not a Jeep) so I know what you mean

Gave my beater daily commuter a break and drove my LC in to work today. A co-worker asked me how I liked my Sequoia, lol. I told him I loved it, but was thinking of trading in for a Land Cruiser. He replied with: "Those are awesome".

This is what makes the LC so appealing to me; it's so unassuming :) ....

Funny, but so typical. :) I'm consistent;y amazed at how few people even among "off road types" and even Toyota fans know what it is...

I need to start putting $$ into my 200 since it starting to get some mileage. currently at 112k. My suspension is to be first. I don't have the cruiser rake since I have a drawers in the rear and ARB bumper with tire and jerry can swing out. I went to measure last night and here is what I got center hub to fender bottom
LF 19 1/2
LR 19 1/4
RF 19 3/4
RR 20 1/8

That RR may be the KDSS. I leveled out the front, but not the rear. I was thinking the OME with the 2722's I also tow my off road trailer. In the pic the trailer is empty since I had just picked it up. Since then I have add the battery system, water tank and supplies. I also do some off-roading with and without the trailer. I like the factory ride, but it is starting to feel worn out. Wish I could go for the BP51's but my wife also wants to put $$ into the house so OME probably the best way to go since I can keep her happy too.
