I wonder if you could sneak in a tubing cutter in there? You know one of those that goes round and round and round.....

The safest way would be to disconnect the filler tube from main tank. Then you could cut it any way you wanted. This might even be faster than what I did but I just don't know.

Either way, my advice do it outside of the garage and have a fire extinguisher handy. A spotter would be handy as well. I am paranoid of such things though.

sorry I assumed he had removed it from the truck!!!!! I also partake in unconventional wrenching once in awhile but when it comes to gasoline, welding, etc. I'm extra careful!!! I would not advise cutting this while on the truck!!! I saw what Walkingeagle??? did when trying to weld something on the interior and caught his rig on fire...

While welding the Chinook frame for transport from NV the soundproofing on my rig caught on fire next to the gas tank... boy was that excitement!

This actually has to be done on the truck, as the pipe cannot be removed with the body still on the frame.

Watch for sparks.

I would prolly disconnect the end from the tank first, and push some exhaust gas or co2 or other shielding gas into the filler neck before cutting with a hack saw. Watch for debris too, your pump and sock won't appreciate filings inside the tank.

hey pkelly72, any tips on installing the aux fuel gauge? kinda wondering where i can source the female end and how that rigs back to the aux tank, taps into power/backlit illumination

I didn't use it. I thought of repurposing it to house a ham radio like cyclosteve.

I did run the wire but I just have it taped up in a coil inside the vehicle in the event that I want to use it in the future

You know anyone that tackled it? I saw George put the wire definition but no way on how he went from the aux tank - under or thru the rig - up the A pillar and to the aux gauge pod above the rear view

Reason I want the pod functioning is to know if the aux tank is full or half etc

Hey can some one please explain why We have 3 wires on the aux tank in the picture but the sending unit has 2 wires (one for the gauge pod and one for the George ECU

That is a diesel sender.

You need a petrol sender, 83320-69215. That is a non-import part so you will have to source one off-shore.

@cruiserdan Can I change the sender unit out and use a gas one ? I got this a year ago from a forum member who told me this was from a gas truck. This was a group buy . Do you know what I need to modify on the tank itself to make it work on my gas truck ?

The tank will work, you just need the correct sender. The petrol sender has a low-fuel shut-off switch that tells the ECU to shut the pump off when the tank is empty.

Eek, did you end up getting HDJ80 sub tank components in your group buy? Or just a tank outfitted with a diesel sender?
