I have a 1982 FJ40 with a stuck odometer. The speedometer does work. I read the forum and tried to repair one once before that the odometer was stuck on. I still have all the parts where I broke it instead of repairing it.

Do any of the vendors or independent guys repair these. I really hate to break another one. It is a 1982 that has the extra digit if that matters.

Thanks, Chris.

I have repaired one before Chris. It was very tedious. I also recall at one time @orangefj45 was offering to fix them. This made perfect sense to me, as he came up into automobiles from the world of RC cars, where small gears are very commonplace. Ask him first and if he says no, give me a shout?

If @orangefj45 or @65swb45 can't fix it. Please give me a shot. Thanks, John

By all means, contact John before me as well on this. Repairing odometers is not a high priority for me, especially with a growing line of carbs rebuilds on deck.

I'm not volunteering... got more than enough on my plate. I highly suspect Toyota used the same parts on the older odometers.

Best of luck. I know that all the little things on these old rigs can add up.

I just learned while fixing my odometer that there are differences between odometers. I have 2 early clusters and the speedometer and odometer are slightly different. My plan to fix one with the other backfired.
They are not too bad to work on really. Just small parts. The RC car comment above makes sense.

Do any of you guys know of ratio converters that will work on a 40 for tire/gear changes?

I've never had a decent working speedo on my 40 and would like to. Hijack over...

Hijack help........> see post #1183 <

I've heard that you can have the entire cluster rebuilt, as well as the speedo. One of my customers told me about a place recently. If I find the info I'll post it.
