Anyone want to see what i am talking about on the steering wheel ?

I deffinately do. Please post cause I am very interested. Great work by the way.

I am trying to do the same thing as Groundup did, least what i think / hope he did with his steering wheel.

Start out with 100 grit sand paper and work your way to about 1000 grit then buff it out for a final shine. It is going to take some serious hours / sandpaper, but it should be better than just painting it. I also need to order the stuff from POR for the cracks it has .

I understand just painting it would where out over time to scratches and stuff, where this will not so easy.

Kind of blurry in one pic but it is just the start.

Won't the cracks still show this way?
I painted a 66 Mustang wheel years ago with Epoxy paint and it still looks perfect........

I am going to try the stuff from POR for the steering wheel, and if that does not work out then i guess i will paint it. They have some stuff kinda like bondo i understand, have never tried it .

As a former POR dealer, I'll tell you that painting afterwards is still necessary. In fact, you could probalby use any product to fill those crack successfuly...as long as it's a sandable epoxy. But you didn't hear that from me. :)

I thought i had heard that somewhere before but was not quite sure. I do not think it came from you but i had heard it.

That being said i think i will still sand this thing down either way.It has about a 1/16 inch layer of plastic on it that is really easy to take off with just your nail. It is like the top part is really dried out and under that is just fine for being pretty solid feeling. If that sounds right.

Thanks

That thing looks absolutely awesome.......I want a lwb so bad after seeing yours. ;p

Quick question, I see a buffer on the back of your bed. What buffing compound are you using? You were using a base/clear paint on the body also, right?

Just curious, thanks, Matt

Matt,

I am using Wizards products . I have been using their products for about 10 years now and will never switch.

Also on the body I am using a urethane paint. All of my other stuff i am using base / clear. I think though after doing most of this truck i will go base / clear for every other truck i do. I do not like how it sprays. I did my rims base / clear and they came out better than the truck paint did i think.

Live and learn though.

What a great feeling to get the bed on it. Keep it up!

A little update here.

Have been working on the neighbors truck with him for the past 3 days now. Had to finish rebuilding his engine and get it set back in and running.

Got some work done on the cruiser though today. Did more buffing on the bed and finally got it done for the most part. I have learned the hard way with this one, will be doing base / clear from now on, on my own trucks anyway.

Few pics from today.

How can you be jealous of mine when you have a diesel. I would love to be able to afford one for one of my toys. Thanks for the good words.

1. Just the same way as Cow just put a T there instead of the C.

2. Not too sure how old i was when i figured it out. But i will say one thing after 20 years in the military i have heard it pronounced about everyway.

Lets talk about what i did today now.

Still was not too happy with the paint so i buffed it out some more and i think i am now happy, it shines alot better now. I know i am still good for paint because it has about 4-5 coats on everything. Infact a rake handle hit it today and did nothing to the paint, but was i worried for a bit, and mad at the better half. She put the rake there. No pics but will get some in the sun later.

Got nothing done on the 45 today but worked on the 40, getting ready to take it to the woods and maybe GSMTR if i get lucky.

Anyway had to work on the motor mounts today, last time i was out broke both front ones and bent the rear bolts almost in half.

Thought i would post a pic of the 40.

I know i am letting some people down here probably to include myself but have been doing a bunch of work out at the farm we have our horse at, and working on trying to get my 40 up and running better.

So after saying all of that i have no updates for the 45. But i am getting my 40 ready to go to the woods this next weekend and hopefully telico soon.
