My new-to-me 2004 100-series with 214k is in the shop for TLC to the timing belt, t-case, diff, and other basics. It's a stock rig, for now, my daily driver, and will limit off-roading to fire roads and the like. The mechanic agrees that the rig's shocks are past their prime. He suggests I use Kyb EXCEL-G shocks. Everything I read on this forum about shocks leans toward OEM.

Should I go with my Kyb or should I do some extra footwork to find OEM shocks that are reasonably priced? (The dealer's prices are cray-cray.) Is there some other shock I should consider?

Thanks in advance for sharing your experience.

OEMs are less that $50 each and could find each for $35 even. And really good, will last another 100k at least. Just my opinion

OEM From Camelback. Pretty good considering you could have all 4 for under $150.

I use el-cheapo Monroes, i like the slow gating. The super duty shocks all seem to be gated very fast for potholes on pavement.

Stocks at 35 are a great deal.

I recently put the OEM's on mine again... hard to beat the price. KYB's are terrible. They don't last long.

OEM- just changed them with 227k on the originals. Ride is much better...

I like OEM for the price and ride but I did install the 866 I believe they were OME springs in the rear to give me lift and Im thinking of doing the IFS upper control arms to keep the front level to the back and mine are shot from stock..... Question I have is should I stick with the OEM shocks for ride comfort since I do not carry a ton of weight now or prepare for the future if I add a front bumper and go with after market and if so whats the best to go with for a balance of ride comfort/keeping it from sagging in the front. Bilsteins, OME, Tough Dog or whatever it is.....? Any advice would be great!
