Post up a pic of the ignition you are using (the distrib and coil)---is it OEM, electronic? Points? Pertronix?

Does the coil have a box attached to it with a couple of green connectors on it?

At its most basic the power to the dizzy goes through the primary windings of the coil---it is triggered off either mechanically by the points or electronically by a sensor. When primary voltage goes off a big spike is induced in the secondary and gives you a spark.


Just to clarify--Do you have power to the coil and none to the dizzy?

If this has the fully electronic ignition, just because your got power going to the coil, that means nothing.
You need 2 wires getting + one goes the coil and one goes to the igniter. You also need good ground to the igniter, and then you need the 2 wires from the igniter to the distributor pickup hooked. Some have 3 wires in which case the green wire just goes to the distributor body.
You need all that to get your spark.
You can look at the link to test for spark without cranking the motor.
You will also need positive going to the idle sel on the carb to get it to idle without the choke.

so we are waiting to hear if you have OEM electronic ignition

if everything is oem the hook ups should be pretty obvious
mine was a replacement so I had to jumper across one of the connectors to make the ignitor work

good point on the ground---I thought something was wrong with mine but I just did not have a good clean ground on the ingitor/coil mount it has a case ground

sorry guys i'm away from home for the day there is a box on the top of the coil with i think 5 wires out the side of it and yes i have power to the coil is the box on the coil the igniter??? i will get some pics wen i get back home.

Yep that would be the igniter. If you can get the numbers off it we can tell you how to connect it. A pic would be perfect. Basically the igniter has to receive +12V in addition to the coil+.

Those pics---is this how it is right now?---it appears the coil/ignitor assy is not bolted down it needs to be cause it needs a case ground or it wont work

here's how mine is hooked up

one connector goes to the distrib
one is left unused (for a tach)
the other needs a jumper to get voltage to the ignitor

Mine is a 71 so it was originally set up for a simple points set up but I added the ignitor coil and electronic dizzy

I noticed you have points---if the points never close all the way you wont get voltage or spark but I am not familiar with the semi-electronic set up but whatever the trigger the voltage from the primary should wind up there

them red wires u have coming out of the igniter were do they go mine only has a single plug aswell and the white out of the dizzy were does it go

how many plugs on your ignitor

mine has 3

the red wire is just a jumper I made to complete the ignition circuit and get power to the ignitor

check yours and see if you have a 2 terminal plug with power on one of the wires with the key on

I'll see if I can dig up a schematic of the ignitor

I think you have a real mess on your hands, mate.

The coil/ignitor is wired incorrectly. There are too many wires connected to the - side of the coil. Even though there are a lot of pictures, you can't see enough to tell which wire is which.

Here is a guess where the wires should go (based on the N. America color codes, which seem to be the same). The red wire from the ignitor should to to the distributor. This is not the same red wire shown in the picture.

ok i have the red wire from the igniter joined to the dizzy but that's the only green plug there is
