No More Gold Package! New grill...

Pretty sure I'm going to get rid of the nasty gold lettering on my 80. Is there a trick to removing the rear toyota logo without breaking the captive nuts (or whatever you want to call them) on the inside? Not sure if I want to take it off if its just going to break...

There are not any nuts on the inside, just locating pins. Use a piece of fishing line or a plastic putty knife and it will just pry off.

cool, thanks! Just need to decide what color to paint them since the truck is white... :hhmm:

To avoid breaking it, heat the area up with a hair dryer and use fish line (as suggested) or dental floss and remove using a back-and-forth sawing motion.

Use Ariplane Stripper to remove the gold from the emblem, then prime and paint as desired.

Gold is ghey.

No Onur, it's more of a yellow territory :grinpimp:

I'll grab some 60lb power pro at work (its a braided fishing line that cuts through your fingers if you pull to tight on it.) and that should help remove them.

Time to go buy the mesh for my new grill!

rattle can

I just popped the bean & sombrero off, roughed it up with sand papper and rattle canned it. Then i used blue tape and newspaper around the full time 4wheel, roughed it up and rattle canned it too. just make sure you mask off the bumper below the emblem too.

don't know what i am going to do about the grill though. I really like the "TOYOTA" grills that some guys are modding for the 95-97's.

I was going to work on the grill today. I finally found a shop that had the expanded metal (mesh) but he told me "I don't have the time to cut it today, it would have to wait until next week." I have cash in my pocket and he can't sheer a 3'x3' piece of steel for me in 5 minutes.

Go for flat black. Looks great on white. Just my .02 cents.

Flat black looks good on white, Satin black looks better and stays looking better longer than flat, which will get dingy after a while.

i'll have to think it over on what color I want to go with. Right now I'm working on the grill, and fiberglass is a pain in the a$$!

Line it and be done with it.

The gold package really pushes the LC into LR territory!

Can't remember seeing a LR with a gold package other than a little bit on the predominately green logo. Glad my LC has the black chrome emblems.

the grill and the mesh aren't screwed in place in the pics so things may not be set where they should be. Just need to do a little more work, clean it up, and paint!

Do the old school toyota badge off a 60 series.

Looks good. How did you get the mesh to stay in? I saw the fiberglass but didn't see how the mesh was attached. You should go with the satin black as Flank suggested and dechrome the entire front grille while your at it.

I can take pics of that also, but I'm attaching it to the plastic frame with strips of sheet metal that are welded to the mesh. It will have small fender washers on the back side to spread the clamping force out on the small machine bolts. THe heads of the bolts will be small and painted to match so you wont see them.

And as far as the chrome, it is going to go. I'm looking into different colors of dark gray/charcoal or maybe black.
