Figured I'd start a build thread on the truck instead of continuing to post a bunch of different build threads. I have a huge list of mods in my head for this truck as it progresses, but the execution is pretty simple; build everything at home in my garage. Sounds like fun! :grinpimp:

I started out as a Rover owner from day one. My first vehicle was a 97 Land Rover Discovery XD. Spent the last 7 years building that thing up in hopes of keeping it forever. Well, being a Rover, it had its fair share of problems, and after throwing toyota parts at it (axles) I decided I should just buy the real thing instead.

I met a great group of local Cruiser heads and hung out with them for a year or two before I sold the Rover. Seeing their trucks (new and old) made me question how much I wanted to keep the Disco. After some very LONG nights, and a few "final straws" with the Rover, I decided to sell it. Posted it up on Expo and sold it within the day...

Started watching the net for a new cruiser (like an addict!) and after a few weeks of constantly (like every moment I had a chance during the day) checking the websites, I found a white 96 for sale in Santa Barbara. Exactly the color and style I was looking for! I was the first person to show interest in the truck less than an hour after it was posted, and after a few minutes on the phone, my dad and I were on our way down to see it in the morning. To make a long story short, we left Reno at 5AM, and didnt make it back until 1AM the next morning (and of course I had work!) but the Cruiser was all MINE and I was happy as can be.

Here's a picture of it when I first got it.

More pics to come...

After taking care of the usual PM stuff, I started by removing the factory running boards and other catch all items. Threw on the 285/75/16 BFG AT's from the Rover and went out on my summer archery hunting trips. Had a BLAST in my new toy! The truck did great and made me happy that I made the switch, even if it ment going back to square one.

The back of the cruiser had more space than the Rover, and the seat brackets made great tie down points which I thought I was going to have to make.

After having no useful place to temporarily mount the GPS, I had to build a mount. Decided to attach it to the grab handle and sun visor mounts.

I didnt have the money for a winch, so the first major build was going to be the sliders.

https://forum.ih8mud.com/80-series-tech/419141-slider-build.html

Brackets are 1/4" plate built to fit their specific part of the frame so everything is a tight fit. 2x4" .188 wall for the main section, and 1.5" .120 wall DOM for the frame supports and outer rail.

High lift testing out the sliders, was able to lift the front tire off the ground with the jack. Also a picture of the cat skid plate.

Some pics of the front. Made a little bracket to hold the res. that bolts to the factory 12mm bolts in the fender. Top mounts are made of the same 1/4" wall square tubing as the rear, and the bottoms are tabs I cut out of 1/4" plate and welded on.

fire extinguisher bracket. It mounts to the body where the plastic trim meets together. Very secure spot since its where the seat belt attaches.

Powertank bracket. Cut the mounts off the 3rd row seat mounts and made the bracket out of 3/16" plate and 1" .120 wall tubing. Also mounts up and over the trim panel to the body underneath.

Long story short, I crashed the truck into a tree after sliding sideways on some ice during a bad snow storm. Got the check from the insurance company, and with the help from my friend Ray (RAYJON) on here, we put the front back together and painted it.

The winch tray is 5/16, the top/front is 3/16 and the bottom part of the wing is 1/4" plate. Recovery points are welded front and back through the 5/16." I also mounted the solenoid in front of the battery to keep it out of reach of others.

Love the mods mate. Awesome work.
Cheers, Mike.

Beautiful welds. Your fabrication skills are incredible. Loved the ARB switch pod on the Rover. Are you planning air lockers for this truck as well?
