No D for me when i bought it at 214,000, but i will try the technical tap
mine went out at 160000. i removed the cluster and reinstalled and it works perfect!
I still have my "D" at 198k.
i had my "D" until about 190,000. wacked it and had it again til about 210,000. now the light went out on the shifter. at 240,000 i forgot about both until i saw this thread
Mine was intermittent from 70k till about 100k and now at 105k its done...... kinda nice at night, a lil less glare.
No "D" at 248k on '93 LC (I just bought it about a month ago). Other lights were out in the instrument panel too in the dash so I took the plunge (after slapping it 3 times). Took me about 1 hour to get it out while my kids were in the back climbing around. 4, 194 bulbs were out (the one's with the green boots). None of the bulbs in the gear display seemed blown to me so I cleaned their contacts and re-seeded them. Put it back together and bingo, got my 'D' back and a nice green back-lit instrument panel. Oh, my 'D' light and all gears below it are dimmer then the ones above it

Looks like I get to post here again, since I bought the '93; it came with no "D" like my '91. The '93 has 199K miles. I just bought it, so I have no idea when it quit.
No "D" for me since ownership at 98k. Just brought it in for some service at 155k and the gosh darn "D" was on, albeit quite dimly. It's still better than no light.
Just noticed I had no "D" the other day, and it's probably been out since I bought the truck 3 months ago. Obviously it doesn't bother me that much. My "R" still lights up though! I'll have to try the bitch-slappinig method next time.

Accuired my 80 at 127,000 miles with no "D" . Purchased a replacement for it shortly there after and it is stiil in the glove box at 177,000.
.oh it lights up? its ok, i'd rather save that wattage for engine power

No "D" at 292K, i'm going to smack the dash and see what happens in the morning, don't really care either way.
The "D" just quit today at 144K miles
D is still good but my rear defrost button light went out. Rear defroster doesn't do much anyway.
