Hey everyone, just thought I would introduce myself and post some pics of my Cruiser build. Its a 73 FJ40 that my mom bought in 74 and has been in our family ever since. Below is a pic of how it sat in our garage for several years before we decided to tear it down and restore it.

I almost took the Cruiser to a shop to have the motor installed, but after talking to Dave Gore, he convinced me I could do it myself. He gave me the measurements and angles I need for the motor mounts, and I welded everything up. Also built my own rear crossmember mount that is rubber mounted with bushed DOM tubing.

Heres how it sits today. Going to rebuild the knuckles this weekend, then finish breaks and some little misc stuff.

Sweet looking rig. You are farther along than I am for sure. Are you Spring over axle on your rig I could not tell from the pics. If you are Spring Under whose springs are you running?

I went spring under with the Mojave leafs from man a fre. Couldnt tell you how they ride yet though

Ya the walnut shell is the way to go, doesn't build up heat and warp panels like sandblasting, and the metal comes out smooth as if it was never painted. Doug at enviro stripping technology is who did it, very nice guy and good pricing I would recommend him for anyone who needs blasting done.

I can never get over how good desert rigs look. It must be a dream not having years of rust belt crud to deal with. Your project looks AWESOME. I wonder if your folks will want it back?

Well its one of those things where its mine but I can never sell it =) Ive had my share of toys though I want my mom and dad to have something cool now, and it will be kept at their house in the garage. And as far rust and dirt go, it had been garage kept since she bought it in 74 so there was no rust on it, just some light greese and dirt. Its only had 50k on it when I tore it down.

Definitely a sharp looking rig. Keep up the great work.

I know a lot of people cringe when they see a nice V8 in an FJ40. Our cruiser is gonna be more of a runner than a crawler so I didnt care about how low geared the stock drivedrain was, or how cool a header looks on a straight 6. I want a V8!

Not me! Love the SBC 400 in my 74. Looks awesome! Look forward to more pics!

Nice.job, gotta love a V8! A clean restoration mod is a good choice imho.
