Just wanted to check in and say hi to all. I'm new to the site and have been lurking in the shadows for a month or so now just reading up everything.

I just picked up my first cruiser. A '78 FJ40 from a buddy who was moving. Good mechanicals but needs a lot of body work. This will be my first time undertaking a project like this and from reading all of your posts, I think I'm already hooked!

With three kids under 8, it'll be slow going but I'm in no rush. I just started removing doors and the top this weekend...working my way down to the frame.

Here we go:cheers:

From one noob to another, welcome
Post some pics plz

Welcome. What are your long term plans?

Initially, I just want to take it down to the frame, leaving the motor intact. I need to get at the rust underneath. At that point I plan to use as a daily summer driver for a few years until the kids get a little older. After that, who knows.....I'll probably strip it down to the frame, replace the motor and make it more of an offroad, sand dune, type of ride. My guess is that by then, I'll be so addicted that I'll be getting another to tinker with. I'd eventually like to give it to my son when he turns 16 as I'm sure he'll be getting greasy right alongside of me!
:)
Still haven't had a chance to post pics....soon though.

So are you going to shoot he dunes? or travel the woods?

Nice looking family. Be sure to build a family roll cage for them.

Plan to hit the dunes when I'm done. Maybe a little lite woods here and there. No worries, a family roll cage is in the plans.
