You wanna post an itinerary and exact meet location, Roger? I have not been up there before. Heifer-net
Page 1 post 1. As for the itinerary not sure of Todd's exact plan but expect it is something like ride till were tired of riding, find a place to camp, eat , drink and be merry then repeat.

^^^^Sounds like a good plan

The meeting place is a gas station right off the interstate, it has a large parking lot and right across the road from it is some type of mom/pop burger joint or restaurant as I recall. Really weird road intersection at that off-ramp as I recall as well.

We sat in the parking lot an hour or two on the last ride up there. I want to say there is a church or some larger building right next to the gas station (if my memory serves...as I've only been there one time).

As I recall the off-ramp road runs past or near the gas station in question...(gas station on your right). For those who have been there before..correct me if I'm wrong. We left the gas station parking lot and went back to windrock over local roads and did not arrive there via the interstate so my perception may be flawed.

The gas station we are meeting at is next to the Shoney's. On west side.

looks like I finally found the map.

still trying to find out if I can get a big one before I get there.

Don't worry about it too much. I have never had a bad time in Royal Blue. It covers about 250,000 acres I think. There is a lot that is not mapped. A couple winters ago we spent 15 straight hours and didn't cover as single trail twice.

What's the skinny on license/permits? Are they needed? Does everybody in the truck need one? Just the driver? Can it just a passenger have one? Which ones specifically? What's the punishment if you get caught without?

Sorry for all the questions. I got the app Roger mentioned, but still can't tell exactly what I need.

I am online right now sorting my way through it. As mentioned, cheapest option is an (072) 7 day hunting permit for me and an (093)WMA permit.Still about $60, so it is not cheap. Probably cheaper for instate. Also I would start at 1-615-781-6500.
You have to register with the system. did not want to use the app on phone as they want too much access to stuff...

It will be like this....Start at 1:10

and BTW, looks like this will be a dry run as there is no ETOH allowed....

Sorry for all the questions. I got the app Roger mentioned, but still can't tell exactly what I need.

As I read it, only one person needs to be permitted.

Is this going to be a issue for the expedition during Gsmtr? I am wondering about people being reluctant to pay this fee over and above other rego.

Im thinking of driving my 60. Its not really been wheeled before, just a couple trips to prentice cooper. nothing but dirt roads. Anyone have an opinion? the bad... 33" ATs, open diffs, no armour. the good...both heaters work and I can sleep in it.

Can you pull some strings? Maybe deputize us and take us out to look for moonshine stills and meth labs?

i would say pin striping will be pretty bad.

Moonshine? I don't do that schtik!

Andy after the last trip up there I think you'd be fine other than the over growth and like Rance said the pin striping.

Do not worry Andy, someone will take point with a weed eater and hack their way through the overgrowth....

We will need to stay away from that hill you slid down backwards in the 40.

Let me see if I can clear up this permit issue. There are two choices you can be a licensed hunter with a WMA permit or buy the OHV day use permits. Their OHV permits are priced high as they want to sell licenses because they get a Federal kick back from the federal tax that is hidden in the price you pay for shooting and fishing supplies. Either way you go you can buy online or at a store that sells licenses. Only one person in the vehicle needs a permit, if you will have a youth with you you can save money by buying the youth license.

Here are the fees:

North Cumberland Special Use Permits
These permits may be purchased for horseback riding, bicycling, and ORV use. Youths under age 13 and persons holding a valid annual or permanent hunting license with a valid permit to hunt on these areas are exempt. At least one occupant of an enclosed vehicle must possess the proper permit(s). No permit shall be required on certain roads/trails as designated.
TYPE DESCRIPTION COST
035 Resident Annual Permit $61.00
036 Resident Daily Permit $12.50
037 Non-Resident Annual Permit $191.00
038 Non-Resident Daily Permit $30.50

001 Hunting and Fishing Combination*
Minimum license required to fish and/or hunt small game $28

*Supplemental Licenses (Types 005, 009, 010, or 011) are required and must be purchased, in addition to the Type 001 license, in order to hunt deer, bear, boar (feral hog), turkey, and waterfowl.

The type of hunting equipment to be used determines which supplemental license is necessary.

Nonresident Hunting Licenses
Anyone who does not qualify for a resident license must purchase the appropriate nonresident license(s) to hunt in Tennessee. These do not include WMA or special season permits.
TYPE DESCRIPTION COST
070 Junior Hunt/Fish - No Big Game
Required for nonresidents ages 13-15 to fish or hunt small game.
A Type 085 or 086 is required to hunt big game. $9.00
085 7-Day Junior Hunt - All Game $25.00
086 Annual Junior Hunt - All Game $40.00
072 7-Day Hunt-Small Game/Waterfowl - No Big Game $50.50
071 Hunt-Small Game/Waterfowl - No Big Game $91.00
074 7-Day Hunting - All Game $175.50
073 Annual Hunting - All Game $251.00
120 Trapping $401.00

Wildlife Management Area Permits
Everyone who hunts on a Wildlife Management Area is required to have a WMA permit except the holder of a Lifetime Sportsman License, Annual Sportsman License, Annual Senior Citizen Permit (Type 167), and youths under age 16 hunting small game and waterfowl. The youth hunters must be accompanied by an adult with a valid WMA permit. Youths under age 6 may not hunt big game on a WMA. All ages need a Type 094 permit for county non-quota hunts.
TYPE DESCRIPTION COST
091 WMA Small Game and Waterfowl $51.00
092 1-Day Small Game and Waterfowl $10.50
093 WMA Small Game Only $17.00
094 Special Season/WMA Nonquota Big Game
Valid for all County Special Season non-quota and WMA non-quota big game hunts, including Cherokee. $21.00
095 Cherokee WMA Big Game Nonquota
Valid only for Cherokee WMA non-quota big game hunts. $16.00

Now for the questions on the Area rules;

Public use is permitted during all hunts. During daylight hours all users outside of an enclosed vehicle or outside of camp must wear, on the upper portion of their body and head, a minimum of 500 square inches of daylight fluorescent orange, visible front and back, during the deer and elk gun and muzzleloader seasons. No person shall remove minerals, including coal, trees, plants (including vines), or building stones from the area without specific authorization.
Camping is permitted on the entire area. Night time use by the general public and raccoon hunters is permitted area wide.
ORV, horseback riding, bicycles, and all other vehicles are restricted to roads marked “open to vehicular traffic.” See License Fees for Special Use Permit information and fees. Speed limit is 25 mph. Organized competition events for motorized/non-motorized vehicles prohibited. Reckless operation of motorized and non-motorized vehicles prohibited. Reckless operation is defined as operating a vehicle in a reckless or negligent manner as to endanger the life, limb, or property of any person or damage TWRA property or developments. Maximum noise limit of 86 dBs for all motorized vehicles as measured at 50 feet from the exhaust

A orange hat and a cheap vest cover the requirement. I recommend that you spend a couple dollars more and get the cloth vest.
Andy if you bring the 40 you need to verify it meets the noise requirement.
