Good luck with the 92. I bought mine about 5 months ago. Have done a bunch of maintenance and replacement. If you run into a problem pm me. If I have worked on it I may be able help. Love the truck. Just been a lot of hours getting it where I want it. Have redone the interior, stereo, tie rods, battery, cables, rear axle seals and bearings, front end rebuild and new cats. More to do.

Thank you, 2003lc. Sounds like you've done quite a bit... and a majority of the tasks I'll be tackling over the next 90 days. Next commission check will finish the maintenance baseline & front end rebuild and start the stereo project.

Thanks dontblink, I will! Damn faildroid tablet ftl

Did you finish the front bumper yet? Would love some pics and to know what prep work you did.

Nice looking Cruiser. Your oil leaks are probably the oil pan gasket and side cover gasket. Both are PITA jobs, but should be part of your baselining. I'll be tackling the side cover gasket on one of my Cruiser this weekend and will post pictures and list how much time it took and the cost.

First, I want to extend a thank you to Summit Cruisers for all of his guidance. Looks like I've got my hands full and an empty wallet ahead...

So, she's a 1 owner 1992 FJ80 with cloth interior & towing package. Oil & ATF look super good, as well as coolant & power steering fluid.

She does have several leaks, notably in what looks to be rear main seal, speed sensor?, T-case, and a front engine oil leak i cannot find.

Steering is pretty loose, and brakes are down right scary (maybe because my daily is an IS350?).

The valves haven't been adjusted in Lord knows how long. There's also an annoying exhaust leak.

The Radio lights up and displays a station but no sound comes through the speakers. Rear windows don't work, passenger rolls down but not up.

AC works, cooling system works, fan clutch is tight, interior is immaculate.

Thank you, welltech, I look forward to reading the threads.

Bigezvol, I took some pics this past weekend however with NFL playoffs and being back at work I got lazy. When I get home this evening I'll update this thread with a decent how-to and write up w/ pics.

When i can schedulevsome time at my dads shop and fond a worthy assistant, I'm going to knock out the birf rebuild/bearing/front brake project and install new tie rod ends & bushings. I'll do a write up on that as well.

After that, monstaliner Yakima & snorkel go on & stereo system install. Will document everything w pics.

Duplicolor Spray on Bedliner - Bumper & Wiper Arms

Bigezvol request a how to, so here's my first attempt!

There's an Autozone about 2 miles away, so i picked up a couple cans of duplicolor spray on bedliner as well as some 3M sandpaper and solvent & auto masking tape.

Once home, I removed the license plate and the vents in the bumper.

Next, I used the course sandpaper to sand away the chips in the bumper's finish, and a couple of rust spots where the paint was completely gone.

After this initial sanding, i switched to the next finest grit and spent an hour or so smoothing out the bumper surface.

I cleaned the surface with solvent next, and finished up with the fine grit sandpaper.

Now that the surface was ready for paint, i masked off the chrome strip on the bumper, and masked off about 6 -8 inches of the lower grille trim, grill, and headlights.

Following the application guidelines on the can, I sprayed 2 coats of duplicolor on the bumper. It used up an entire can! This is the important part: I drank a frosty miller light. don't skip this step!

A couple hours later, it had cured. Of course, it was sunny and 80 degrees out. Depending where you are this cure period may take longer. I removed the tape, took some pics, and drove to the deer lease!

Additional duplicolor info

Forgot to mention, I used this stuff on my H3 and it held up pretty well to DD use, but every time I used the bumper as a slider it scraped off so I had to reapply. I also used it on my spare tire for the blackout look... pics of FJ80 and Hummer to follow.

Here's a few more pics of the process, and my masking job.. I ended up taping the headlights for good measure.

Snorkel Installed Today!

Installed the snorkel today, it's the $179 eBay one. Yes, I know some of you ARB purists will flame me. However, I can assure you that:

A) I'm not cheap on most items. I don't see myself fording rivers in Houston TX.

B) Yes, it's mainly for "bling>"

C) Flame suit activated

Anyway,

The install was straightforward and took about 2.5 hours. I have to suggest using a good drill. We started with Ryobi 18 volt that was decent but ended up using a DeWalt hammer drill that was bada** for the big hole. That was a beyatch.

Outside of that, give the job :banana:b/c its so easy.

Thanks for the writeup. I did mine this past weekend but chose to de-chrome my bumper. I also put more than 2 coats on. Did the brush guard too.

I did my dash pieces that were black as well as the console and shifter cover console. Once I get it all back together nu will post some pics.

OME 2.5 install

Finally got around to lifting her today. Didn't get the caster correction completed, but did shocks & springs. Only took 2.5 hours - EZ job.

What helped:

No rust

Sprayed b12 chemtool on all bolts every day for a week as slee suggests

Good Impact wrench

Competent help.

I think rides the same (medium) as stock. Can't tell a difference, except she's 4 inches taller.
