Thanks Guys!!!!

So, the sealant is just there to hold it in place until it is installed. That's good to know! I remember when I did the valves on the 62 and replaced the Valve Cover Gasket, my mechanic friend had me lay the red RTV to it.

JP, I have a set wheels and nearly new tires from the resto that I need gone before the homeowners association breaks bad on me. Don't know if you need some for one of your projects, but they are yours if you want them (read here free). They are 15 inch universal wheels with P215/75 R15 Dayton A/T tires (looks like they've been used less than 1000 miles).

Marshall, I think I still have some scavenged 80s parts under the house, like a rear bumper, if you need one for your business. Also have a FJC Brush Bar.

Also, I'm looking at buying a set of the moon "T" hubcaps from SOR for 60s 45s, which look like they will fit a 60s Stout. JP, do you know of a better source as they are @ $70 a piece from SOR. I think that is a reasonable price as repo-ing these things can't be cheap, especially for the few vehicles they were meant for. (Let me mention here that Kay Specter has now called me twice about one order (tail light gaskets). Talk about good customer service!)

Have packages coming from Cabe Toyota in California (starter, OEM rubber, etc.), SOR (mudflaps, side view mirrors (great deal BTW) and various small pieces), an Ebay dealer in Australia (original NOS fusebox), and a Stout specialty dealer in NC (Stickers, replacement engine parts) all on the way. Early Christmas!

Here is a picture of the Hubcaps I'll probably end up buying from SOR: (Source: SOR.Com)

David... those moon caps were originally reproduced by a mud member, screen name of majojo4 (majojo4@hotmail.com) He sells them for $60 a pop and has blemished ones for $30. I bought three sets of regulars from him originally and then the last two sets have been blems and to be honest standing and looking at them side by side you can't tell the difference. I would recommend buying from him as he put in a lot of effort for the cruiser community getting these repo'd

Thanks for the offer on the tires and rims, if I wasn't trying to cut back on this bad habit of ours I'd be all over then :grinpimp:

Thanks for the lead JP, I'll get the blems.

Marshall, I will put your name on all my extras, including the tires and rims. I will throw them in the back of the Stout and haul them your way in a week or two.

Tonight's fun

Repainted oil pan after taking it down to metal and blind riveted the VIN plate. Apparently, Toyota screwed the VIN plate into the top of the bib originally. DMV says it should be riveted...it's riveted now. The blind riveting was, perhaps, the most satisfying project to date: it went off without a hitch and the outcome was better than expected.

Just replaced the wheels and tires with OEM rims and nearly correct tires. So, I have 4 chrome wheels (10 hole) with 4 nearly new Dayton Timberline ATs, 215/70 r15. I'm guessing they may have 1000 or less on them based on info from the PO.

No reasonable offer refused. You pick up in Weaverville, nc. May even consider a trade for a set of chrome hubcaps for a 45 (jp?)

David, do you know the width of these wheels? Also what are the bolt patterns? I'm thinking they may look good on the Nova. I'd be interested in them for the right price.

Hey Carp,

Thanks for asking. Those wheels and tires are headed to Trollhole for his business. But thanks for asking!

Man this thing is really cool. I didn't realize the later ones of these were basically identical to the mini trucks here. There's a picture of an 81 Stout in Chile that looks identical to my 80 pickup. So is the 3R (according to the VIN plate) a 1.5L or 1.9L?

It's a booming 1.9L that develops 85 hp and, according to the previous owner, can do 50 mph . . . .:) I have his records and he really did take care of the engine, and I think with some tinkering I will be able to at least do the speed limit.

Sales of the Stout ended in 1968 (in the US) and it was replaced by the Hilux, which takes the Toyota pickup up to about your truck's era. Its a heck of a lot of fun to work on as there is only one vaccuum hose, no smog pump, no cat, no AC, no radio, etc.

Oh the joy of simplicity. Yeah I'm vaguely familiar with the Stout. I was doing a little reading up online about them after I read your thread. For the top speed I think one thing said they could do about 65mph? It would probably take forever to get up to that speed though. I'm not bashing it by any means. I swapped my 20R out for a 22RE just because it kept dying off road. The 20R also made a whopping 85-90 (new, mine was probably pushing 70ish), and had no hope of going any faster than about 40-45 mph. In my particular truck, I don't think you would want to go any faster than that. It is sketchy going across the parking lot. :hillbilly:

Anyway, sorry for the highjack. I'm enjoying the build.

Edit: Also, the name of the trucks is a gray area for sure. In the parts catalog you can look up parts for a "hilux", "pickup", or "truck" and you're looking at the same thing.

Done much to it lately you made me start working on my 66 stout was up for sale changed my mind

Just picked up the OEM starter from the post office this morning. Good resource near you in Mint Hill, Carlyn, who has stocked a bunch of parts and can email you his catalogue of parts.

Once I get the starter in (tonight?), it should be on the road!:bounce:

Did you get the engine dress up kit from him just want to know if I should get one and I deleted my Pms can get the name of guy at cabe thanks

Carlyn Dinkler is THE source for restored and NOS parts for 60s Toyotas. He is in Mint Hill and apparently has a large storage facility in eastern NC. He specializes in Coronas, but those cars share alot of parts with the Stout truck, which in turn shares parts with the fj45.

I did not get the dress up kit, but did get the engine sticker, new oil plug & gasket, starter from Carlyn.

The fuse block came from Oz via eBay, and took about a month to get here. With shipping it was $37. Jp, the old one was so buggered up I trashed it. Sorry.

The contact for new replacement parts for Stouts is Mike Bingham at Cabe Toyota in San Diego.

The new starter is in and it's a good fit. Now I need to figure out how to get the thing running again. I labelled all the wires during the resto and put them back. Couple of mystery wires. No power anywhere so I am guessing a ground issue. Will either figure it out or flat bed it to my guys at Mostly Toyotas in Asheville.

The fuse block part number is 82600-30022. I think Carlyn may have some in stock.

I thinks its time to call the flat bed and have a real mechanic check my work:hhmm:
