Yeah the truck was running sweet with that motor. I'll post more pics once i get it all buttoned up for good! yes, i am wondering about the fan blower speed box.... pic would be awesome!

ohhhhh boy!!!! got it done tonight with the new Comp Cams valve springs, lifters and retainers, and man o man!!!! SHE'S ALIVE!!!!!!!!

It runs SOOOOOOO Smooth!!! starts and purrs like a kitten!!!

And that 5 speed h55f is SWEET!

Can't wait to drive it to work in the morning. I'll post pics of the stuff finished tomorrow or the next day. Want to show the temp and oil pressure adapters that I made. Not an easy thing, but works nice. Nice to have the stock gages working.

Just got a few things to tidy up and she's golden!

:)

Look here ( you can see and get the hand in at same time .. )

your hand between the metal support and the firewall ( the cable that appears in the pic it's the speed cable )

This it's the infamous box ... unplug the conector and the bolts .. ( hard work for me 6"2' with one hand only ) inside you found the coil ..

oh sweet!! thanks for the pic!! thats the cable that i have that's not plugged in!

awesome shots, thanks a billion for the help!

Tomorrow i get low and medium speeds back it looks like!

As far as the motor goes, seems to be running fine except for the fact that it looks like the guy i got the swap from had the wrong mass air meter on there. Have been working with Willie at FIS trying to figure out whats wrung because i keep getting CEL's and it runs rough at idle. He's been a great help and would recommend those guys to anybody. Anyways, i was able to hook up the truck to a nice code scanner and see what was really going on. looks like the Mas air meter is reading way to low for the truck so it makes it run lean.... then it adjusts to try and enrich it.... without too much luck..

Anyways, I also got to check stuff like the engine temp versus the dash gage since the code reader displayed an engine temp using the GM temp sender and saw that about 1/4 of the way up was 185 degrees F, half way was about 212 degrees F, 3/4 of the way up was 230 degrees F and near the red zone (but not touching) was 240 degrees F. Who knows how consistent that is from truck to truck, but it may be usefull....

tomorrow I'll finish the tach up ( i ended up buying an autometer one since the resistor trick failed miserably) and trying to get the plug plugged in for the fan speeds (Thanks Tapage!!!!!)

will keep you up to date on the progress...

I got it I got it! the samall things can be so satisfying!! thanks again Tapage!

well, got the ecu sent off to FIS today so Willie can recalubrate it for the mas air flow sensor i have.

Will update as to howw that turns out... and i know i owe some pics of the oil and water fittings... but i'm out of town now.

will get them wed or so when i get back home..

here are some shots of the rebuilt heads and the oil press adapter. Also showed the water temp...

new head has comp cams springs and retainers in it, and the block has new comp cams pushrods. went together pretty well. hopefully tomorrow i ge tth eecu back...

For the water temp, i used a blocked off hole in the right vortec head.. it had 12 x 1.5mm threads in it so i had to drill it out to 14.5mm and tap for the factory 2f temp sender which was 16 x 1.5mm threads.

here is drilling and tapping... also a shot of the oil press adapter. the vortec oil press sender had 16 x 1.5mm threads on it and the 2f oil temp sender had 1/8" pipe threads. had to make this adapter since there didn't exist and fittings that i could find. Dan Hart at work machined it for me (thanks a billion dan!!)

here is a shot of the oil press adapter installed and the fuel pump location also. I used -6an push loc hose for the whole fuel system. basically did a hose clamp on the feed line with the -6 hose to the pre filter for the pump, then the pum, then -6 hose to the FPR.. then -6 hose from the bypass port to the hard line return that was already in the engine bay.

hasn't leaked a drop and i tested it to 100 psi.

got the computer back from FIS today, runs great now.

I will try to take some videos of it soon and post. will also post some finished pics.

been driving it most of the week!!

drives great!

I thought i'd seen the end of the codes, but i am getting a few for the heater circuits on the o2 sensors i have to sort out.

i got 13mpg over the last half of the tank DRIVING IT LIKE IT IS STOLEN!!

can spin the rear tires shifting out of first into second... on PAVEMENT!!!

man, i need to slow down before i break something..

naaaaa .. just have fun and enjoy your effort .. with time you goota slow down .. for now take a video for us ! :D

Rover67,

Appreciate you letting "us" come over and check out your V-8 engine swap. I'm going to try and get motiviated to start mine soon. Can't gripe too much about the weather now that's it cooled off. I plan to call Dan at American Toyotat to get a 5 speed shortly. Great to hear you experiences and see what modifications you made and what worked for you.

man, after seeing Elberts truck i had to clean mine up. here are a fw shots of the swap done and how it sits. not really on level ground, but you get the idea. Still wrestling with the o2 sensor crapola... gotta get it sorted before making the move to Co at the end of the month.

one thing I forgot to ask is: While I do want to install a lift (Dakar Heavy / heavy) does it make any difference on if I install it pre v-8 engine swap or post? Engine is a 98 5.7 Vortec, will run mark's adapter kit. and toyota 5 speed.

I was able to put my engine over to the left far enough to clear the diff really no matter how high the the oil pan was from the diff.... there was clearance. Have the lift springs available when you are doing the swap so you can throw them in if you need to. I don't know how the old model oil pan looks, so i can't say for sure. Philos I believe put in the earlier model engine in his truck, he'd probably know your answer.
