we need updates :D

sorry :)

Here's the latest... got the transfer case rebuilt and on the trans. replaced all the bearings with a kit from MAF. I think it turned out nice, it took a few nights to get it all clean and put back together. I also ended up heli coiling most of the threads in the block... which meant taking everything off and putting it back on again. the 3/8" bolts take a lot of torque in that soft cast iron... I'd just go ahead and heli coil the threads in the block before putting the bellhousing on the next time.

I just finished torching off the old mounts, grinding the welds down, and knocking the rust off of th efront end to get it ready for a good layer of Tennessee Chrome. Looks nice, and is ready for the test fit of the new motor and motor mounts tomorrow. I am excited about getting it in there finally. tomorrow is a big day :) :)

heres a shot of everything painted.. I went ahead and painted it before doing the mounts for the new motor because i didn't want it to rust more in between days. (been hot and rainy here finally) i'l just touch it up where i weld it tomorrow. Also is a shot of the transfer case. put sealant on all the bolt threads that break through the case into the oily parts and put silicone on the splines before bolting up the yokes to avoid any leaks there.

Awesome.

I crave V8!!!

Got the motor in and mounts welded yesterday... need to add a bit more metal around them today and see what I have to do to make the left header fit around the steering u-joint tonight. Will post more pics soon, just wanted to get an update.

will also be pulling my rearend out tonight to take it to the diff guy here in town, turns out (noticed it while pulling driveshafts out) the pinion bearing was toast.

pulled the rearend out to get it to the rearend guy amd got the motor all bolted down. started to fit the left header and ran into the same problems as iantscared did and ended up having to readjust the left front header tube. also included a bunch of shot of engine placement for reference. I got it as high and to the lft as i could without hitting a bunch of stuff. basically cut 1 inch of the left mount and used the second hole. on the right mount i used the last hole and had to add about 1/2" of spacers to fill the gap. Don't laugh at my welds... it's been a while.

tomorrow I clean up the left header (read grind off ugly poo weld and paint) and start fuel lines i guess....

oh, and a tip... remove beer bottles from front bumper BEFORE using sawzall to cut header... or spilled beer will result and Mead will salvage...

enjoy...

hey iaintscared... how much clearance do you end up with on the left header with the steering u-joint? Also, I jacked up the left front as high as it would go to check for clearance with the diff and oil pan and it is good to go, had a bunch of space even if the axle hit the bump stops it looked like. I am just worried about the heat from the header toasting the u joint....

forgot to add also that I rebuilt the clutch slave cylinder and bled it also tonight. it feel like stock.. Hope the centerforce clutch lets go with that short throw. sure feels like a short pedal.

hasta manana....

i meant jacked up the right front to check for clearance.. it's late.. and sorry for the horrible spelling. must be the spilled beer.

I'm pretty sure you are still having fun . !

Thanksfor share the pics ...

got a lot more done this weekend. Fornt and rear driveshafts back in, rebuilt diff in (thanks cameron for the gaskets), fuel pump mounted, throttle cable hooked up (used a lokar cable and the same help pack from automoan that iantscared did), and got the front end painted and back on.

here are some pics... check out the radiator hoses. pretty cool, they fit. My brother spent a while at the parts store searching for the ones the would fit and look like stock.
Also, the radiator and contour fans mounted. another cruiser gets contour fans..

more pics.

Today we go nuts on the wiring and hope to get the pesky temp and oil pressure senders sorted out. Still can't finid the right adapters.. hopefully iantscared will help me out.

ALso a shot of the exit of the throttle cable int he firewall, and a bracket that i had to make since my motor was originally a drive by wire that i changed.

got it to turn over tonight before dinner. motor is going to sound great.

tomorrow it's off to go get a few more -6 An fittings so I can finish the fuel system and actually hear it run.

Did you change your throttle body from an electronic to a cable? Rover, do you still have the electronic gas pedal? I'll take it if you do.

Also, are you using a vehicle speed sensor?

Great work. You are moving much faster than I am on my conversion!!!

Looking good!

She's looking good Rover. The exhaust had a couple inches clearance after it is cut. Don't worry about the heat you can always put a shield on it if your original one is gone. How did you do on the sensors? Got them in OK. Keep up the good work!!

still need to tap the blockfor the sensors... will do that tomorrow.

i have the fuel lines hooked up and everything ready to fire, so tonights the night.. will give an update.

i do not have the pedal, the engine came to me with just the cable throttle body and the harness had been converted already. I am not using a vss right now, the ecu has had that function removed. hopefully it will still pass emissions with the cats on it.. i really dont see why it wouldn't if it runs anywhere near 14.7:1 at idle.... but yo umay see me putting one on. anyways, i think the big reason it is ther is for the egr functions, tank purge, and other emissions stuff, also a tranny and electronic spedo which i have none of.. so well see. keep ya'll posted.

bryan, hows your truck running? you like the way it sounds now?

cya,
Marco

new heart beats!!!
