So I finally got my H55 installed and it's not shifting, I searched and read I probably need to align the shift forks in the cover. Anyone have any documentation on how to do this, the H55 has the little shifter cup unlike the H42 and none of my manuals cover this :frown: Pulling the interior back out and pulling the top plate this evening, any help appreciated ;)

BTW: This was brand new in box from Toyota, seems to be stuck in 1st gear and wont move even with decent persuasion.

Man that sucks! All that work and NO GO!
I can't believe someone has not chimed in to help. I would but I know nothing about the inside of a tranny.
Good Luck, Maybe it is something simple.

i had a similar problem after turning the transmission on its front while putting a transfer case together but mine wouldnt engage 5th and reverse. I was able to remove the reverse switch towards the front of the trans and move the shift forks back with a screw driver.

We had the same thing happen when installing a h55 in Tofus HJ. We solved the issue with a long screw driver, by lining up the forks, before reinstalling the shifter.

Sounds like this may be my issue since I stood it up during the transfer assembly, will try this tonight. Hopefully I can get it through the shifter hole so I don't have to pull the interior and transmission hump back out :frown:

Finally got some time to tear this back apart, the reverse gear had indeed fallen forward engaging the gear when I stood it on end. Took the top plate off, slid the gear back with a long screwdriver, slid the shift fork back in place and reinstalled the cover. Sounds so easy when I type it, the 55 tranny tunnel isn't as big as the 40 so I could only tilt the top plate instead if pull ... what a PITA :-( Be sure to check this before you install if your reading this ... shifts through the gears now, a little tight being new.
