Boys!
Coming from a female here in the forum, the 60's are the best. I much prefer controlling my vehicles via a manual stick to a boring automatic transmission shifter.
AAAAAAANNNNNNNNDDDDD..... that's what she said! If only other womenz understood that a manual stick is so much betterer than a boring automatic one (regardless of battery operated or plugging into the wall :D)

All joking aside... welcome to the world of MUD. You WILL learn a lot here regardless. and Like @CaptClose said, basically you either want manual and carb with round eyes or you want auto and efi with rectangle lenses. Both are pretty much the same truck so choose wisely.
Rust is the biggest killer on these vehicles and there is a few documents/threads out there that talk about where to look.. Basically if you see a bit of bubbling rust then there is lots beneath.. Take a decent magnet with you when you go look at a truck and run it along the lowers of the truck (rockers, wheel wells, fenders, doors, etc.) as those are the common spots for rust. If it doesn't stick but there is paint and everything "looks" ok then that means there is a bunch of bondo present.

Welcome. Yes, you keep your transfer case. It is attached to your transmission only so it cares not what engine you run. Plenty of V8 adapters out for our 4spd or 5spd transmissions. I just put the H55f (Toyota 5spd) in my 60 and can tell you it has made a world of difference in daily driveability.
That's the tranny I think I want to set up with. I appreciate the help and thanks for the welcome.

Thanks for the info. I love this site already. I am 100% going with a 60. Nothing sexier than round eyes and a stick, oh wait didn't mean to say that last part (sticks aren't sexy)

Welcome! I've been here 3 months and the people are the cream of the crop! I say one word about A/C issues and I get messages for days then I have to explain I have a chevy 350 and cant use what they are selling. My first major mod will be a 5-speed transmission once I get the cash saved up. There is loads of information in this place. You can learn tons by just reading through people's build threads.
I will say once I bought mine, I worked on making the interior less scary for my upset lady. I got a new tuffy console and some great seat covers from Cruiser Corps. That made it look brand new inside.

You are going to have 500 bored, old white men wanting your hand in marriage.
They can want it all they want, I've already avoided marrying two boring men so far. Ive come to the decision its just better to stay unhitched. The only person who needs to be happy w/ my truck and my home is me (and my kid).
But really the 60's are far more exciting in the vintage aspect. Round eyes, manual windows, simple mechanical fuel pump, intricate and reliable carbs once set right. I adjusted my valve clearances recently and the change and the sound when I step on the gas now is amazing. I love my old beasty machine.

, I have never been a fan of something a person can't ever compare to. ;) I'm a smart lady like that.

Nearly two pages and no pictures is unacceptable. So I will contribute one and put in another suggestion for a 60. Here's mine, just prior to heading out for new paint.

I like it. Going back white or? Yes a 60 for sure in my future. There aren't any hardly listed in a 300 miles radius where I'm at that do anything for me. It's kinda hit and miss here and it's been alot of miss for awhile. It's so bad I'm looking at two 85's in Florida. Wondering if I should jump or sit idle.

Thanks man. I can tell already the folks here are pretty helpful and friendly. I'm going to sit back and enjoy the ride.

Welcome! I bought a trusty rusty 60 and I love it, but I wish I had waited for one in better condition. Every penny I put in it I know isn't going to last, because the body is going to fall apart before my repairs do. This is one reason it sat for so long, looking for love. This could be an ad on a singles website for a middle aged guy that doesn't exercise, but it's not. I was lucky enough to marry a woman who loves the Land Cruisers, even though neither of us knew it until later. We have things pretty good.

But, I digress...My point is, make sure you get one worth spending your time on, working on, investing in, and improving. Otherwise you'll always be looking in @Aloha Jen 's direction, wishing you had that.

I hear you. There were some pretty nice ones around Dallas and Austin a few mons ago but I had to much going on to go give them a look c and now nothing. I just have to keep looking until I find the "ONE" now I'm starting the whole mid 40s midlife crises dating ad. I have half of it for sure the 40s part.

Good deal. Oh, and the last part of that post was in reference to the cruiser AND the wife.

@Aloha Jen, I've always admired how you take care of your truck's. I'm raising my daughter's to love adventure and be capable of turning a wrench as well as turning a head. So far we've got adventure down pretty good, still working on the wrenching. Between you, @NeverGiveUpYota , and @nuclearlemon I think they've got some good examples.

A little advice for your shopping... I realize you want a V8, resist the urge to buy a cheap "non runner" because it suits your intended purpose. Buying a good runner will allow you to evaluate trans, transfer and a whole host of other systems that would be unknowables in a no op Cruiser.

Heck, you may just fall in love with the slow lane!

No, not going white again (actually it was more of a dingy primer grey). I went dark green and really like how it turned out (Just ignore the Christmas party outfit)

I like it. I've never seen one that color.

She didn't paint it herself... she had a company do it. Bunch of pics on the 'what did you do w/ your 60...' a few months back.

I didn't paint it myself, the talented guys over at Automotive Innovations in Waipahu did. They even cut out all the rusted areas and welded in new metal.

I'm easily confused. Was it white and Automotive Innovations painted it green? The white color seems very nice to me. Either way, everything looks great.
