Builds "new" fj60

That's the stock hanger, U-bolt, and clamp. I just bought a new U-bolt and clamp from AutoZone (made in Canada) - for 2-inch OD pipe - for my '86 FJ60 project vehicle. Looks like the flange was cut off the pipe just to the rear of the hanger. That's where the stock catalytic converter front flange bolted on.

Glad to know mine are still there but now I know where to go to get replacements. As for the flange, if it wasn't cut-off then I could've just bought a cat to bolt on, right, but since it was cut off should I just take it to a shop?

So, the pulley in the bottom right of your photo is the smog pump, does it have rubber hoses coming off of the back of it? Can you snap a photo of the driver's side fender area next to the intake manifold?

The photo you posted is perfect, that's where your cat should be. Unfortunately it has been removed and that's just a test pipe in place.

In one of my first few posts I mentioned having an extra set of 15x10 inch wheels; they came with the car. I posted them on craigslist and the letgo app and got a few offers. Someone in sacramento offered me $150 and said he'd send someone but that never happened. A kid out in modesto asked me to deliver for $220 but didn't have the money yet. Then on Tuesday right before class i got a text asking if I'd be willing to take $300. Instead of countering, I jumped and said sure thinking he'd flake too. As we chatted he said ASAP. I then offered to deliver that night at no extra charge. So right after class I sped to my storage, loaded up, and drove from San Jose to Madera. As soon as i exited I texted the guy and no reply. I pulled up to the house and texted "I'm here" and again, no reply. Then after a few minutes on a creepy street with not a single street light the guys mom came out. She handed me the cash and I was on my way.

That $300 has covered the starter and belts I swapped out, and will possibly cover the water pump, hoses and other fluids; I hope.

Safety first!

I brought a keg home for my 23rd b day the same way. LOL

I fell back from posting because I decided to take classes 5 days a week, and since I live in San Jose and the classes were in Alameda which is a 50 mile commute, lets just say I never stopped wrenching.

Since my last post:

Not sure if I mentioned that I've stripped off all the paint and plastic-dipped my wheels and took almost 9 months to decide what color to paint it even though I actually like metal look.

I've had to replace the rear u-joint and in the process I cracked the flange.

I now have "quick release" hinges and I almost always drive around with the 2 front doors off: rain or shine.

October:
The starter I'd replaced the after buying the car crapped out so I called a AAA driver and he said if we pushed it in a reverse he could get it started and wouldn't count it as a tow: that worked! I also learned that cylinder #2 had the most fouled up spark plug ever.

November:
I overpaid for a driver side seat belt but I was desperate because tying mine in a knot didn't feel safe.

December:
I flew up to pick-n-pull in Portland, Or because they supposedly had an FJ62. All I really wanted were the doors but they were rusted out and I don't know how to weld so dealing with skins didn't sound to good. I ended up leaving with a windshield and back door window. I sort of ran the back window over and the windshield cracked. Car had a seat belt too but I didn't have my impact gun. What a waste. I also rebuilt the carb in my bedroom only to find the issue was a clogged fuel filter.

January:
Car was in storage while I ran around Asia for 3.5 weeks.

Feb:
Since I never put my fan shroud back on, in December I ended up breaking a fan blade which caused a ton of vibration. I finally ordered one from the same people that I got my seatbelt from. I was ok with the price this time.

I ordered front leaf springs in December and plan to slowly buy rears and then everything else and hopefully have it installed by end of summer.

I was able to tackle the carb rebuild but I don't know if I should attempt the steering gear rebuild. Is anyone thats tried both able to compare them in terms of difficulty or thats done only the gear able to offer some wisdom?

I NEED HELP!

Someone on here once pointed out the my fuel tank looked like it was sagging. I checked it and agreed but it wasn't a priority but after the tanks leaked, and the filters clogged I know why it sags and its starting to irk me. I've attached an exterior pic and one of the cargo area wheres its bolted. One of the bolts broke through so thats probably a simple fix but Im trying to figure out what kind of tank I have. The bolts seem to run through the tank and out at the bottom and a few are slightly bent.

Looks like you have a long range tank! With a skid plate.
Which is not the factory tank.
From what I see on that floor board pic those are the bolts to hold up that tank.
You may want to drop that tank and have it cleaned out or replace it with an original tank and have that cleaned out.
Especially seeing your plugs and fuel filter.

Just FYI
You may want too baseline the truck first.
New plugs
Air filter
Oil filter
Oil change
Flush radiator ....etc
Time it get it running correctly and make sure you have all your smog equipment if you are planing on having it smogged.
Just take your time download the FSM and do one thing at a time. And it will all come together

So would you say the bolts run thru sleeves in the tank and come out the bottom and do you know of any companies that sell a tank similar to this? Ive only seen a few long range tanks and they are all different from mine. Thanks.

I think I've pretty much got it baselined. Now my issues are electrical, cosmetic, and fuel. Thanks again.

Yes, I do think the bolts run through the tank and bolted the other end.
I think Man a free made one a long time ago. That’s the only one I know of.

Didn’t Toyota issue a recall for fuel tanks? Maybe check to see if it was ever done on your truck, get a freebie from Mr. Yota?

So I cut one bolt off from the bottom of the tank and it did nothing since its bent inside BUT, I realized that since that bolt broke thru the cargo area I can unbolt the others and the tank should still come down. However, Im headed to Pismo Beach and will tackle that job as soon as I get back. I did cut a new gasket for the sending unit and I'm hoping the gasket was the problem. I took some pics of the inside of the tank and didn't see any pine needles or twigs which are what clogged up my fuel filter both times but I did see what I thought could be a crack but its only visible inside.
