New Dome Lights based on George’s LEDs (Gauging Interest)

Looks like a great color temp. Look forward to final design.

I'm interested in two domes, pending final design/price.

I would also be interested in the map and door lights as well if/when those are offered.

I have a pair of George's original lamps from many years ago. What is the difference in current draw between the old ones and the new ones?

I'll check with George but I think the current draw is similar.

Okay it seems like there’s enough interest to make it worth the effort to get these made. A couple days ago, I went ahead and gave George the go ahead to get started on the pcb design and he’s already making progress. I’ll try to make these available ASAP.

Awesome. FYI, there is already a TaskLED driver based map light on the market, in case that helps with deciding on going down the road of producing those.
Looking forward to this!

Question: How do these compare to the chinese LEDs? I'm especially interested in the power shock the lights experience when starting the vehicle which cause the single LEDs to burn out slowly. This has been a problem with LEDs purchased here on the board.

Also, with the 48 bulb LEDs, I've been able to double up panels in each dome light to get some serious light in my truck. Are yours small enough to double up in the dome lights? Regardless, we're talking $180 for 4 dome lights (if doubled up) which is pretty pricey. Do you offer any type of warranty?

interested. put me in for a dome and map light.

I'm curious to see the light and its output, and see why I should spend $180 to replace the LED panels that cost me less than $10 and have been working great for almost a year :meh:

Consider yourself lucky. I keep replacing mine with the same s***ty ones and they keep flickering. Over and over again.

FWIW, I've had George's original design (2 dome and 1 map) in my truck since he first started selling them. Has to be well over 5 years now. Never had a single issue.

More often than not, you get what you pay for.

Very happy with George's original...but count me in for at least 3 of the updated version.

Thanks for getting this together!

Scott,

Curious to know why you decided on 4000K and not something warmer ? My main bitch with the led's is the cooler color and horrible CRI.

If George is designing you a custom driver board, that board should also work with a Cree XP-G of a warmer K. I know the warmer colors are more money but personally, I'd pay the up charge !!!

Thanks....Jonathan

PS. Yes, I'm in as well, whatever you decide...

I read a couple threads on the Candlepower forum where some people thought the warmer, 3000k, Cree was ugly and looked yellow rather than just a warm white. Also, I believe light output gets diminished with the warmer leds as well. Admittedly, I could not see for myself because the source where I got the 4000k led did not have any of the 3000k versions for me to try. I was really pleased when I saw the light coming from the 4000k emitter so I just decided to leave it at that. I'll see if I can get my hands on a 3000k version to try out before final production starts for comparison purposes.

Yes, you are correct, the warmer K is less light but I doubt you or I would ever see the difference. I'd be interested to hear your feedback once you compare a 3K and 4K side by side !

Btw, thanks for doing the research and I look forward to whatever you produce. I am so sick of the cheap retrofit led boards that flicker, fail and have terrible cri's and K temps !!!!!

Rgds...

So who wants to sell me their 1st georges to help fund this new style ;)
