Thanks for posting the shock picture, Shane. To really tell about the angle it needs to be directly from the side.
You'll find that those rubber boots are part of the wiring harness and not available separately. Maybe Beno can find a miracle or a magic wand and find them. If you soak them with 409 or Simple Green or some such, then scrub hard with a brass bristled brush, they will turn out looking new. Or at least newish. Most of them are out of direct sunlight and protected by the very goop you want to get rid of, so are probably in nice shape underneath.
Look at it this way, cleaning them in place will be easier than replacing them. Cheaper too, if that matters.
The build is looking good. Keep the posts coming.
Good work! How long did it take to do that rear frame?
Oaks - I've been spending an hour here and there for the past two weeks. Then today had a chance to finish the prep work (for the most part). If I had to guesstimate...I'd say about 15hrs prep time (front & rear), 4 hrs POR-15 time. Was going to do the front today but ended-up degreasing the engine/engine bay area one more time - thus will have to rep re-prep the front again b/f putting the POR-15 down.
Sad part - I WILL pull the body off at some point and powder coat that bastard. I'm just overly paranoid about rust, so I don't mind doing the work twice =)
S,
Looking great bro. That frame is KA-LEEN....I used to think the same way about the frame/body, especially for my 40. (still want to to a full frame-off on that thing)....as well as powder coating.
Problem with PC and paranoia that'll really get you going? That first scratch...much tougher to do any touch-up to take care of it...and once rust gets to work behind PC....rust sandwich. My new plan for frame, sliders etc is either Eastwood chassis paint or the VHT chassis and roll bar epoxy (personally recommended by our good friend J). that way any scratches are just a little sandpaper and respray away from being eradicated.

Man, thought about that scenario but decided to go PC+1 and then some. My PC shop does offshore PC'ing - so, first going to have them prime in the corrosion resistant coating, then PC, then after she's all put back together, going to undercoat/sound deaden the road-queen. If I have the cash after the next 5 unforeseen projects, I'll have the frame dipped, then the above. This is my official mid-life crisis and self-serving OCD realization x 100 =)
Heck, if we're talking mid life crisis, just freaking galvanize the sucker some day (& add 150 lbs of zinc to the weight of the car). I talked to a PC shop about PC the FJ60 frame... They said that since the cruiser frame is boxed, they won't be able to get powder inside the whole thing. They'll do the best they can..... but there will be spots that the powder won't reach = rust.\
I galvanized my ARB bumper 20 years ago. Still looks great (not a spec of rust) & has spent some years near an on-shore salt mist beach in the tropics.. can't say the factory painted frame fared as well.
In the short time I've owned this 60, I feel like I've contracted some sort of multiple personality disorder, hehe. ADHD, btw, is both a blessing and a curse.
Landpimpchances actually are that you do have ADD. Last year at 48 years old.......figured out I have ADD all my life....12 hours latter I was on Adderall.....it was like someone hit the easy button
And....I have not drug home anymore cruisers in the last year....actaully thinking of selling a few
I went nuts and did many LC just like your doing..........had 17 at one point, now back to 10....thats a sane number I think
super 60....enjoy!
Landpimp
What was the reason you bought so many?
Color? Just cause? 17 down to 10 that's cool still.
I find myself wanting another 60 even though I have two as we speak.
Seems you do tend to develop ADD and want several or go over with fine tooth fixing them.
