Hi all,
I am new to this forum but have loved what I have read thus far. Just a quick intro, I am based in Melbourne, Australia and have just purchased a 2019 Landcruiser Sahara (200 series.
It’s my first cruiser so am super excited.

Now my question if I may? I want to purchase an OBD2 scanner but not sure if I need one with BMS. I have read in some places that if you change your crank battery, you need to register/program the new battery with the ECU so the ECU knows it’s a different battery. Others say you don’t have to register it as the ECU knows it’s new and adjusts accordingly.
Is it worth getting a scan tool that can register new batteries OR is it overkill on my behalf?

While I am it, are there any recommendations for OBD2 scanners for a newbie like me?

Any feedback would be much appreciated.

Never heard of this. No idea how to "register" a battery.

Some Euro cars do this, but I haven’t heard of a Japanese one so far. Then again we’re all inexperienced with RoW diesels.

Had to do it on my BMW 335d. The good part was that you can select between AGM and regular and the car would charge the battery accordingly.

Have not heard of land cruisers requiring registration.

Diesel with Start-Stop function need normaly a teaching of the battery since with this function the whole charging management, voltage measurement and power consumption is much more complex than at a car without.
Thats why the teaching is necessary on these to not damage the battery/ having less lifespan.

But the 200 doesn’t have this function.
