To install the new rear Delta bumper, I needed to chop the factory exhaust short and eliminate the Yota resonator. Now the whistle is driving me bat-dodo-crazy, and the exit location is dumping a ton of heat right into the bumper frame mount. Time to rectify.

I’m looking at a short 4” T304 stainless resonator from Total Flow with an immediate downturn exit. I know the risks of exhaust exiting under the rig, so I’ll bias the exit toward the wheel well a bit.

I’d reuse the factory resonator, but clearance is an issue. I could go with their longer 7” resonator, but I’d have to mount that about 16” back from the exit, and my understanding is you want the resonator as close to the exit as possible. Any advice? Anyone familiar with this brand? Reviews seem good…

I replaced my muffler with a Bosal a few months ago. I had to cut off my resonator in order to install my new 4x4 Labs bumper this weekend. No whistle at all currently.

Replaced the muffler with the bosal and that solved the problem for me too. That whistle is the worst.

I had the resonator out for a while and grew to hate the whistle. A local exhaust shop was able to fit it back in and keep the end of the pipe tucked up high.

I'm having the same issue on mine. It dumps the exhaust right up against the bumper plate. The droning noise is about to drive my wife nuts and the whistle is even worse.

Did that resonator placement resolve the whistle? If yes, you’ve inspired me to take another look at the Toyota resonator and potentially try to cobble the factory parts back together in a different orientation. Spent some time in the shop cleaning things up. Not so shabby for 270k miles and 10 mins on a wire wheel. Call me impressed. I do love stainless!

Oh yea, it fixed the whistle. I'm still running the stock muffler as well.

I highly recommend spraying that with a couple coats of Hi Temp Clear (1000°F) from an auto parts store. Even though the original is stainless, you just polished it with a carbon steel wheel and have contaminated it with carbon and now it will rust quickly under the truck.

Spray it with the hi temp stuff ASAP before any humidity makes it start rusting.

Sad but true. Or just wet sand it all with some 800 and get a polishing wheel 🤷😂
This sounds like an excellent plan. With the right compound, I should be able to get to a mirror finish. 👌👌👌

I added the resonator back in to the exhaust but it mounts to the inside of the frame rail and tucks up under the 4x4 Labs bumper. Sounds stock, uses all the factory mounts and cushions.
