I just completed my DIY 4X4labs bumper on my 95 LC and just ordered the dual swingout kit, before I start, I'm looking for unique but very functional ways to carry items. One swingout will be the 35" spare tire, the other will be a ladder with a mini swingout on it, to double the overall usage. I'd like to see pics of this type of setup completed or any other ideas that you might have. I want it to be functional and clean but not like a complete mess hanging off the back of the rig.

Things to carry:
1. Spare tire
2. Cooler
3. Rotopax Water/Fuel
4. License Plate mount
5. Hi Lift
6. Ammo Cans (?)
7. Tow Strap (?)

A high lift fits nicely behind the spare on my swingout

I set the other swing out up for two gas and one water can. I'm considering modifying the single slot for a tall ammo can to hold WAG bags. Of course you could store anything in it.

This is the type of ammo can I have in mind:

ToyotaDon,

That's what I'm talking about!! Nice!

I just started a post in the 80's section, hopefully guys like you could post pics of your set up and list the pro's and con's! I searched a bunch but the finished product is usually buried in 15 pages of the build thread.

Thanks!

I would design it so you can remove the swing out parts when you are not on the road. I have the full ARB bumper, swing out,tow bar combo and its a pain going into the back to put the shopping away, and then opening it up again when you get home.
Try doing it 4-5 times a day

Rosco,

That's a good thought. If you or your wife, is useing it as a DD, then I would think, opening and closing all that gets old quick.

The swing outs are definitely more work with a DD but at least the 4x4 bumper can be done with one hand. The gas struts help out a lot there. Watch out that you don't clock a kid in the head with one though. My swing out lower bar is head height for my toddler.

Cool idea but are your unloading all that if you get a flat? If your flat is a total sidewall blow out can you still mount that mess on the damaged wheel/tire? Also my 35" wheel/tire is already 100lbs+ Adding all that will only apply more road force to the wheel carrier.

Wife, kids!! Hell no Im just a grumpy old age batchelor who does his own shopping and likes to make life easy for himself:D

I think the idea of the ARB swing outs is that they are virtally theft proof. But when I need the room and have 2 tyres down the back,Im going places the thieves in the city never knew existed.
When Im back in the city I could throw one spare in the back floor of the troopy ,they even have a special spot for that.
The top of the tyres also obscure my view when reversing.

EDIT I said it was an ARB bumper but it is really a Kaymar and ARB sell them for $3800+ $400 fitting.Im glad the PO paid for it,because I wouldnt have.

Looking through the rest of their products,I think its all about creating the offroad look than actually going offroad.
Their step slides are a joke

Made this one on my 40. The jack an shovel are on the front. I also incorporated a small fold down table for camping on back side of tire carrier. It's petty handy for trail side hot dog roasts.

X2 totally useless with a flat/blown out tire on there.

Guess I missed that post...that makes perfect sense and a great point! Then what would you do with all the gear...
